I've been a Member of these boards for a little wile now and already know the basics of the game...................And I don't even own it yet! Anyways, I couldn't find the game in stores anywhere so I ordered it from Gamexpress.com (It's cheaper than Amazon.com.) and it will arrive sometime near Thanksgiving. I plan on opening the game as soon as I get it! I was just wondering what I should do once I first start playing (After I play DBH and read the manual that is.) in order to get used to the game basics a little more than I already am.

Re: Out of box?
Build, tear down, rebuild, tear down again, and rebuild again. Apply this to every editor. That's what I would suggest. Not only will you learn to be more comfortable using the editors, you will also see/figure out much better ways to get the results you want. At first, when you think of a good way to do something, you will see there is almost always a better way to do it.
And read the boards here and ask questions. Thats my advice, for what it's worth.
Oh, and don't get frustrated!Last edited by Seraph; 11-20-2007, 09:59 PM.

Re: Out of box?
I wouldnt even touch DBH, itll actually make you not want to play it
The game is self explainatory and extremely easy to learn, just jump around from item to item and check things out, if youve played RM1 before then youll find RM3 is much easier
I was making a simple game within 10 minutes, you shouldnt have a problem at all

Re: Out of box?
You don't necessarily have to read the whole manual. Just use it for a quick reference. I never read it and I thoroughly understand the game. I also never played DBH. That game is stupid.
Also don't put too much pride in your beginning work. It will probably be pretty sloppy compared to things you do in the future."Dans le veritable amour c'est l'ame, qui enveloppe le corps"

Re: Out of box?
Yes please do not try to create an epic game up front, thats the easiest way to lose faith in the game.
Best to create a small game first, such as making a field, town, and a dungeon and making a character go to the dungeon and fetch something for someone, then branch out and try new things

Re: Out of box?
Yeah, don't bother with DBH, and a quick perusal of the manual should do at first (when you're ready to do advanced stuff, give it a second read).
The best way to jump in is to play with the editors. Check out the Field/Town/Dungeon editors, the Monster/Party/Characters editors, and the storyteller mode. Go into the Layout Editor and do some very light work with that. For your first few hours, just make it a little playground for your character to run around in and interact with (or stomp on) a few things, so you can see the effects of everything you do in the editor.
Unlike RM2, the interface lets you create stuff in almost any order, with the exception of events (in which you usually need to create the stuff that the event modifies before you can script it!).
How Badly Do You Want It? (VX Ace) is now available for download! - no outside software necessary.

Re: Out of box?
But you ARE correct with your advice. It's generally NOT a good idea to start out with something like that, as you might tend to get discouraged/lose interest fairly quickly, unless you have a real dedication. As for me, I ended up taking a 3 week break from making the game in the middle somewhere, as I just needed a break (I pretty much had spent almost all my free time making it). I just kept getting more and more ideas, though, and eventually just HAD to start working on it again.
