Light gun games on the Wii

I know I talked about this quite a while ago, but now that I've played a few, I was right...the Wii gun games just don't suck me in as much as they would if I were actually aiming at what I'm shooting at rather than just a general direction of the screen. Keep in mind I LOOOOOOVE gun games and I'm actually contemplating Time Crisis 4, having gotten every one before that as well as many of the obscure gun games (Vampire Night was actually pretty cool).

Does anyone else feel the same way? My bf and I were playing Umbrella Chronicles last night and all I could think of is how much cooler the game would be if I was actually aiming at what I was shooting. On that note, I hope more Guncon games are released for ps3 (since there really isn't a 360 alternative either).

I think the problem with RE:UC that I noticed was the fact that the game wants you to use the whole remote (A button, to be specific) and the Zapper makes that incredibly awkward, what with the constant reloading and dodge motions. So, yes, UC is best played with the Zapper off, but Link's Crossbow was a hoot and a holler, because it was indeed so simple. If they take that formula and put it to Ghost Squad and House of the Dead, I can see it being a Zapper-licious good time.

I am coming for all of you!

Even on my large twenty-somthing inch TV I feel that I am shooting at the screen. This may not be the case, but it sure feels like it.

Where do you have your sensor bar in relation to the tv? On my smaller TV I have it under it and the the left (because usually I lay down on my bed and play with my Wii :3)

Time Crisis 4 uses the same exact pointing tech as the wii remote. it just uses a few more IR lights for a bit more accuracy.

traditional light guns use scan lines to read location. HDTVs don't have those, so no one uses standard light guns any more.

The days of actually pointing at something on-screen and shooting it with any accuracy are over for all systems.

        not the wii's fault.

I've heard of that. Know anywhere I can get that?

          Useless question, but still....

I'd try used game stores or e-bay.

I wonder how it works with elebits.

Hey, Kire. You might want to try the Nyko Perfect Shot.

The Wiimote does not naturally aim exactly where it's pointing, but in games that support calibration, like Ghost Squad, we were able, by sitting at the right height and distance and then not moving from the spot, to dial in the Wiimote's accuracy to the degree to which we could actually aim down the Perfect Shot's barrel. This allowed us to turn off the on-screen aiming reticule in Ghost Squad (doing so provides a points bonus) and still shoot accurately, which is how lightgun games should be played.

Yeah, that about Ghost Squad peaked my interest. I hope more Wii light gun games have calibration like that.

I hope there's a demand for more games that allow calibration. Just imagine playing an off-rails FPS on the Wii with that Nyko gun.

With a few minutes of tweaking, most players will find their sweet spot, though with the options always on-hand we ended up making fine-tune changes throughout our entire first playthrough of the game right up until the review. Now that we've found exactly the right feeling though, we're deadly, and it was well, well worth the time it took to tweak it; online results are proof enough of that.
