    StarCraft Tournament

Well, I am going to a Starcraft tournament. It's 2 vs 2. I have played Starcraft before, and I am playing with my friend who is fairly good at Starcraft. I have the demo on my computer. And might get the original. I am being Terran. That's helpful because you can only play as Terran in the demo. I read and know quite abit of techniques.

So overall I am fairly experianced, but still would like to know some tips and ideas from people who play Starcraft. Specifically for Terran. But I will take Zerg and Protoss tips also.

P.S. The tournament will most likely include the expansion.

Edit: The tournament is on Decemebr 1st Saturday. Just if anyone is interested.

You need a lot of experience playing online against different people and I'd recommend getting the actual game and expansion (its only $20) if you want to stand any chance.

There's people out there who take this game very seriously (AHEM - CACISS) and are insanely good and will just run you over.

If you're going into this thing with your only experience being playing the demo with against a friend, you will be far behind.

Make a 1 second map(I made one if you want it), instead of learning a few things in a few hours you learn a lot of techniques and buton combos quickly, especially when the enemy can hit you with an army of wraiths and goliaths within a few seconds.

I played my 1 second map with a guy I knew and it took us 4 1/2 hours

          Don't bother with money maps.

          They just spoil you.

Anyways, if you want some tips for playing Terran, ask Caciss.

I'm sure you can meet him in battle.net and watch him stomp some fools or watch a replay or two.

I praticed on alot of different types of maps, besides a money map. I've read the tactics for a money map, but still I would find them boring.

Try getting some maps off of WCG or whatever.

                  They're pretty balanced.

Trust me, this game is a lot deeper than just playing with a buddy.

You should be alright if you're going against a bunch of people who haven't played it before. You can get a good headstart with a few weeks pratice with some good players.

Money maps remove all strategy from the game. You can just sit in your base all day. The reason that Blizzard made resources scarce is to force you to venture out. That creates conflict and requires you to develop more strategy then "I can build a bigger army than you."

                            Exactly this.

Money maps are a complete waste of time. Most people who play them are the ones not meant to be playing RTS games in the first place, because of the removal of any need for strategy.

                            As a side note, I used to be pretty good at this game. I was thinking of picking it up again by Alt's suggestion. ^^;

youll have a lot more fun playing 4v4 or 3v3 fastest with your friends than you will playing 1v1 on wcg maps, especially if you arent good.

honestly, i have more fun bashing 4v4s and 3v3s than i do bashing the 1v1s. pub games are so weak that the only way i could ever have fun is doing stupid strategies like proxy middle fast expo or dual robo or something because otherwise its so one-sided. and then people tell you "oh go on ladders" but those are boring because its nearly the same thing. my old friend got C+ on the old pgt doing nothing but 4pooling, and my other friend got to B- and he was terrible. sorry, i dont want to have to play 500 games just so i can find a game or two every hour thats worth playing.

i had a lot more consistent fun playing like 1v1 on microbox (teams arent as fun) or teams on money maps than i did playing on the ****ty wcg maps and i think most new players would feel the same way i do. the fun in competitive bw is only when you are able to play a lot of games with people that are really good and you are able to compete with them, and until you reach that level it doesnt matter what games you play as long as you are having fun.
