Rpg maker XP

Why isn't it available for purchase on a PC CDRom? What are the reasons they chose to make it only available for download? (I'm sure piracy issues may have something to do with it)

I ask because I can't buy the damn thing without a credit card. Is there any other way to purchase the software without a CC?

EDIT: I asked Agetec 3 times, but they have failed to respond to my emails, which is weird because any other questions I had for them have been answered rather quickly.

It IS possible to buy prepaid credit cards at any currency exchange. All you do is give them the amount of money you want to put on it, plus like a $5 service fee, and you have a working Visa/Master Card. Then anytime you want to put more money on it, you pay a small service charge and fill it up.

Also, pretty much any bank that will open a checking account for you will also give you a Visa/Master Card-branded debit card.

I know, but is a pre-paid card valid in other countries? I know I cant use one to order from amazon.com/.ca.

And I can't get one (branded debit card) through my bank because I don't have ANY credit whatsoever.

I think you should be able to get a valid Debit Card with most banks if you simply have a checking account with them. Maybe you need a couple hundred bucks to show that you have the money to pay for what you're buying. You might be able to do some neat stuff with PayPal as well; I really haven't worked with that too much.

My bank won't. We already tried to figure it out with them and we need to have X amount of money saved for 12mnths in a savings account before they consider us for a Credit card. The prob is our expenses are far too high right now for us to put enough into the savings, every month we go over our budget.

I am interested in paypal though. I know nothing about it, so I am going to check it out. Thanks.

edit: also to one of my other Q's, is it, and if not, why isn't it available on cd?

agetec isnt going to answer your question, because it's not about one of their products.

Piracy had nothing to do with it, it's just as easy to crack a downloadable file as it is to crack a CD.

It had to do with money. if the english PC RPGM audience had rejected it in favor of just using the pirated version, they only lose a little money that they spent on translation with the download method.

if it was available as a CD in a store, they would have lost a lot more due to manufacturing costs, printing costs, and shipping costs.

No, Seraphim...you don't NEED a credit card from the bank. If you have a high enough credit to open a checking account, they'll usually give you a debit card to use at ATMs, and nowadays, almost all of the debit cards they give are usually branded with Visa/Master Card. It's NOT a credit card. All it is, is a debit card that draws the funds directly from the checking account. Trust me, there were banks that wouldn't open a checking account for me because of my credit, but when I found one that did (which wasn't really that hard to do), they asked me if I wanted a debit card, and I got one with a Visa logo on it. Honestly, I use it for EVERYTHING. The only thing I use cash for anymore is bus rides and taxis. Even the pop vending machines at the mall now take debit cards. I know I'm pretty much the "stereotypical American" that relies on plastic, but it's REAL MONEY that I physically have, not FAKE MONEY (i.e.-credit). And it's just so damn convenient. Think about it.

Ok, makes sense. But Agetec did answer my questions about rpgmaker VX.
I also went to the Enterbrain home page and contacted their billing dept or whatever, and they never replied either. Who should I be contacting?

Edit: Perv, I live in Canada so I guess it is different here. I don't need credit to open a chequing account.
I have one, I also have a debit card. They will not give me anything with mastercard or visa on it aside from a prepaid card. The only thing my debit card is good for is buying stuff from the store and using the ATM. I can not use it to order anything.

Edit: Does anyone know if it's possible to purchase XP with a cheque or money order?

Just a thought, perhaps you could have a friend buy it for you using a credit card or PayPal, and just give them cash or a check?

By the way, one of the cool things about XP, the way I understand it at least, is that you need it to create games, but you DON'T need it to play the games that other people have made on XP.
