    Assassin's Creed

I picked this up today as well as Mario Galaxy, got a free turkey since it was over $100. :o

Just about to pop it in, surprised no one else posted this yet. Almost too many good games coming out in this short time period, I’ll post my thoughts on this in a few hours.

We talked about Assasin's creed in the South Part Guitar Hero topic!

Anyways, tell us later how it plays 'cause I'm getting sick of the commercials.

      Re: Assassin's Creed

I picked it up earlier this week, and I've loved what I've played of it. I just finished my second assassination, the one at the Hospitalier in Acre.

The combat might get repetitive, but I can't say for sure at this point. It sort of seems like the idea is to avoid combat, anyways. It's really satisfying to plan well and be patient and get a perfect stealth assassination on your main target, as opposed to running straight at him with your sword. When you do end up fighting, however, it does seem like all you have to do is sit and wait and counter whenever your enemies attack.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the story is actually interesting.

I'll be picking it up next month. It was either Mario Galaxy or this. It was a tough decision.

Garr was crying to me over AIM, because Something Awful wasn't praising it.

              Re: Assassin's Creed

I have VERY mixed feelings on this game. I'm very, extremely, horrendously disappointed with how they presented it. I think they tried way too hard to fit the whole idea and the HUD to be part of the story, to add a false sense of immersion. I really dislike everything that has to do with that facet of the game, especially when I was seeing Fast Forwarding Memory. It completely killed my connection with the ancestor. I could do without all this DNA / Memory crap all over my screen.

As far as the game play, though? I'm definitely liking it. I like the whole control scheme. I like how everything is simple and natural. I enjoy just getting around town and trying to complete all the little things there are to do. However, I dislike when I have to travel long distance and blend just so I don't raise suspicion. I have to really play it more before I say much more than that. Just my first impression.

I still can't believe they ripped off the House theme song for their commercials.

But then I'm just happy these days when stuff doesn't have Jerry Seinfeld talking about Bee Movie.

The Gametrailers review has footage of dumbass guards.

I thought the game was amazing. I only got to play a little bit though. Seriously We snuck in a few hours of game play imbetween 8 man halo 3. We only played up to the superdive thing. We got to the town and all we were focused on was the random killing of anything that moved. The game played extremely well I thought. It was really easy to just pick up and crush people. Didn't pay much attention to the story. Honestly I was a bit sceptical until that first high profile. I'll be getting a PS3 for the X-Mas and I'm thinking it's a deffinet buy.

Funny enough, I feel the opposite way. I like that the game constantly reminds you that you are in a simulation of a simulation, but I'm a big fan of postmodernism in general. Additionally, I always appreciate when game makers put in an effort to make the interface part of the diegesis of the game.

The crowd dynamic is really great. I was saving a citizen in the middle of a crowded street and I did a "high profile" assassination on a guard, which pretty much means a sweet-looking kill that draws a lot of attention. The people around start screaming and running like crazy and the whole area just goes to pandemonium. The guards are running at me and everyone else is trying to get away, knocking over shopping stalls and jar carriers. It just feels really cool.

The guard AI can be stupid, there is no denying that.

They can be stupid and die easily, but I think it's fine because you are an assassin!!! You're meant to be a killing machine. They just guard stuff and then get stabbed in the face. Again I didn't play that far. The biggest problem I had was when you kill a civilian your life goes down. I hate that.

Heh, it's pretty easy not to kill them. Except one time this beggar ran right in front of me as I was trying to assassinate a guard and she got a knife in her belly.
