What if they made a RPGM3 styled rpg maker for pc?

I have been reading a lot about in which console will the next rpg maker appear. The PS3's development is too expensive. The wii would have a hard time with the videogame trading and would look like a chibi game. The xbox 360 is not popular on Japan.

When I think about it why not PC. I know RPG Maker XP was awesome but why not take it further. Like heading into the direction of RPG Maker 3. The graphics for that game were awesome although they sacrificed customization. But a 3d version on pc could change that. Trading would be simple. Making a game would be more easier with a mouse and a keyboard. You could even buy a tablet and draw with a pen the 3d landscape as on the ps2. They could offer the same level of import and export as on XP and allow you to import 3d models that could be acquired on the internet from them or from a 3d modeler. You could have a Garry's mod style from half life 2 or forge from halo 3 way of editing places with a physics system in place like havok. If wrestling games and sports game let you modify the appearance of the characters then why not this one.

The possibilities are endless. The only thing that Enterbrain would need is putting their all into the game and making it the best. They do that and even normal gamers will come in and join the fun. I know how much fun it can be forging objects on maps on halo 3. Unfortunately I don't think Enterbrain would move that far. Oh well I will just dream about it because it would shake the world.

Perhaps you guys have some imagination to the possibilities that are possible with a awesome polished pc rpg maker. I would love to hear them. I know I'm dreaming but I could imagine RPG Maker 1 million with the Unreal 3 engine, havok physics, and endless options of customizations. Sadly those are only dreams. sob. But guess I'll take the hard path. Become a true videogame designer by studying the career and work making videogames.

Well some do. Who knows, life can be unpredictable. But this is pretty predictable.

The next RPG Maker is in fact on the PC, and it's titled RPG Maker VX. Japan gets it in December, and there's no english release date set just yet. it's still a 2D engine though.

I don't see why you would think an installment on the Wii would have a hard time trading files (saves can be backed up and shared via the SD card slot, and possibly even the message system), and have "chibi" graphics.

Yes I have read the announcements you have struggled to write. I see almost nothing different on VX that differs from XP.

Ah I was unaware of the SD card slot. I guess rpg maker on the wii would be interesting depending how they do it. Chibi graphics were really cute on rpg maker 2 but rpg maker 3 gave it a little more final fantasy feel. It felt like a serious rpg. It would be interesting to see finally a rpg maker on 3d on the pc. We will see what the future brings. I'll just continue to use rpg maker 3 and 2 to practice making videogames so when I finally finish my long college studies I do the real thing.

          I'll dream for now. lol.

Interface simplicity and a visceral feel are two things that RM3 really have going for it. In the case of the former, it's a lot less necessary in a PC version, and in the case of the latter, it's hard to translate to a PC (because playing with a console controller does feel a lot more active). So I don't think a RM3-like game for the PC would be a good idea.

I agree, however, that bringing the next generation of RPG Makers to the PC, or even making it entirely for the PC, could be a good idea. In the case of entirely for the PC, though, I'd really be worried about how much it would sell.

The 360 isn't popular in Japan, but it's doing great in the states, and maybe it will do better in Japan in a few years.

The PS3 is expensive to develop for, but I don't know how directly that would translate to a project like an RPG Maker. The problem is that it's not selling too well in the States, and not amazingly well in Japan either.

The Wii has a large potential market, and would be a pleasure to create a game using. But motion detection would be a nightmare, as would the endless parade of n00bs I think we'd have here talking about how they're gonna make the next Zelda game. Not everyone who owns a Wii is ignorant about RPGs, but anyone under 17 who's been loyal to Nintendo has only had a precious few good RPGs to experience.

I hated the RM2 graphics, as soon as I saw that I turned the game off and never turned it back on...

The character models were big turn-offs, but besides that I don't remember the graphics of 2 being too bad?

I would imagine the Wii would be the perfect system to make an RPGM for, though.

You have low production cost, a massive potential user base, and can make a more intuitive design and play system than either other console can offer. Plus if I understand correctly, while the Wii may be behind the other consoles in processing power and such, it's still more powerful than the PS2, so a grittier, more realistic visual style should be no problem.

The PS3 and 360 are too busy cutting each other's throats to attract a majority on either side, and I'm sure the Wii will be the second system of choice.

Plus Valk also mentioned that the 360 might actually the worst system, because we'd need to use XBL, instead of the Pavilion and other community sites, to trade games (assuming I understood correctly).

You people don't even use XP now, even though it's the best maker on the market. So why would you want another PC maker?

Because RPGM3 is so much more fun to work with.

Which is what needs to be done with the next RPGM game.
