They had a demo stand set up with the game and guitar hero 3 next to it. I was picking up Phantom Hourglass for my girl (as if I'd ever play a zelda game) and I had decided to check it out. I got on line and this dude and his friend were standing there as well and we started talking about how neat the game sounded.
After waiting on line for about 15 minutes watching annoying little kids fight over the game a spot opened up, I jumped on the drums but I needed a guitarist! Luckily one of the people I was talking to filled in and we started to rock (as "Best Buy" and "Player 2", huh).
The game is awesome! I love how clean the screen looks and the new rectangular icons, the drums were sick but there was no foot pedal (the demo hit all the foot notes automatically). Dead Or Alive seemed to be the popular song that you'd always be hearing but since the line ended after some people watched us go through "Black Hole Sun" we got to try "In Bloom" and "Dani California" after, even going on Hard mode for the last song (50% for the first time on drums is pretty good I suppose). We successfully rocked out and then I had to head to class so I had to say adios to my bandmate. Strangely enough while we were conversing during the game he said he played guitar and his friend played drums in real life, should've asked to start a real band with him as I play guitar, too. Drat.
The game seems to have a lot of promise! Black Hole Sun was awesome to play, at the end it gives you the reins and lets you just go nuts on the drums and you get a solo. The timing was a little weird to get used to (I guess just cause I had to adjust to starting my hit on the drum earlier than the note got there) but after one song I think I got the hang of it, wasn't able to get any good streaks going but man it was fun and refreshing after the past year of guitar hero'ing. And the videos during the songs are just a lot better looking than the way too bright look of GH3, they have all sorts of neat effects for solos and stuff. Definately picking this one up on tuesday, stay tuned for my topic "Meet The Band!" when I do.
