My PC is acting up.

Most of the basic things won't respond. *Control Panel, Computer, among other things* With the cursed, "NOT RESPONDING" Message.

Is it a virus? Or do I just have too many programs.

Pop in you OS disc and repair anything that may need it. Thats what I do when all else fails.

Goto Start->Run and type in "msconfig"

go to startup items and deselect all the junk programs(all of them except antivirus, firewall, etc...)

This is one thing to do, theres many more, but my time here is short, gota get ready for work

go to download.com and DL spyware: search & destroy

step one: place computer on ground



step two: find something heavy



step three: set heavy thing next to computer



step four: find something that is electronic that works



step five: set the electronic thing on opposite side of computer



step six: find fire



step seven: place fire in middle of all said stuff



step eight:start to dance around fire in ritualistic way and pray to the computer god to lift the cures from your computer

if step do not work try something heavyer and a bigger fire if you dont get results just try a good reformat

Funny enough, one of our computers in my house is also acting up. The hard drive is shot and it makes beeps when we start it up. Even now, I can hear the pitiful beeps next door as my dad attempts to repair it

when was the last time you got a reformat it is recamened to do once every 3-6 mounth's

Try shutting the computer fully down for a good 30 seconds, then restart. Doubt it'd do much, but it may help.

I'd second the MSConfig thing. I'm guessing either a virus or you have way too many things running in the background. Bring up task manager and see what percentage your CPU is running at and how much free memory you have.

Well, I have ANOTHER problem.

My audio is dead.

Can't play Grand Theft Auto Multiplayer and can't open RPG Maker XP because I'm missing a sound device or something like that. *shrug*

go to control panel->system->device manager->sound(or similar)->update driver

If this doesnt work uninstall the driver and reinstall it

I also have the same problem with sound and Ive tried everything, Im about to install another sound card and see if thatll work.


Its not recomended to reformat every 3-6 months, I think he meant defragmenting, which might be a good idea.

Also while youre in the System area go into "Advanced system settings"->"Performance Settings"->"Advanced" Tab->Change Virtual Memory to 10% HD space, I have mine set to 7000MB, which I know is way more then I need (this wont help your sound, but itll make your comp run a little faster)
