Anti-Fanboy Initiative - Video game forum regulation

The fanboy behavior in this forum is making it damn-near unreadable, so Mora and I decided to put an end to it last night. The following behavior will now result in your post getting deleted:

Using stupid derrogatory terms like "Xbots" to describe people.

Accusing anyone of only liking a game because of what console it's on, likewise, accusing anyone of disliking a game only because of what console it's on.

Insulting the audience of any system.

Bashing any console without an intelligent argument (no more random PS3-mocking images). Because of this regulation, our own "INNOVATION" emoticon is now gone.

Saying any system has "no games". Whether you like them or not, every console in history has at least one game released for it, negating that statement. Likewise, the "no good games" is a no-no too, unless you can prove it. so if you say "the ps3 has no good games", then you better immediately back it up somehow with proof that not one single quality game is on the system.

Accusing any system of only/mostly having "kiddy games". It's a stupid argument mostly used against nintendo, despite the PS1 and PS2 having more "kiddy games" released on them than any of nintendo's consoles ever did, and nobody ever held it against Sony then or now.

Keep in mind that even if your comments are not targeted at forum members, and instead at people outside the community, they will still be deleted.

No infractions will be given for offending posts. they will just be deleted. any posts containing any of this material is to be deleted by mods or admins on-sight, along with any posts directly referencing it, without hesitation or review. it just does not belong here anymore.

This list may be updated in the future.

Should also include accusing any system of having only [insert genre here] games. IE. Xbox = shooters, Wii = minigames, etc.

I guess I can live with that. I do wish there was a place on the Pav we could release our console and company hating *****yness though.

I still say that the image of the console and the percieved market of who's buying it drives the majority of the content for that system.

I don't have any problem with this, but I'd just like to point out that "fanboy" isn't always a derogatory term.

I do too. I'm just tired of seeing every game topic turn into an idiotic flame war.

Re: Anti-Fanboy Initiative - New forum regulation

i think these rules are a little much. i'm all for toning down the fanboy accusations(baseless ones, anyway), but when i say the virtual boy "has no games", i would assume only simple mans would think i was actually saying nintendo released a system and then decided to put absolutely zero games on it. though i perhaps can get away with saying it had no good games.

some of the new rules are "nice", in that it will stop comments that i would find annoying, but it's also fairly limiting. a discussion forced to be all pros and no cons is BORING. as hell. though i guess we're still allowed to mention cons, "with proof", which i surmise means a paid employee on some other website mentioned them first. and i'm unsure who decides, or at least, upon what they base the decision, that an argument is intelligent.

should always be willing to try new things though, so lets give it a whirl.

couldn't you just make a blanket rule that tells people to stop acting like dip****s?

Re: Anti-Fanboy Initiative - New forum regulation

It does seem a bit harsh, but honestly, alot of these problems have cropped up the last year or so, so i think eventually it will die down (especially when the general PS3 hate starts to go away).

But for now, i'll do my best to abide by the rules.

                  "Proof" is never good enough.

                  "PS3 has no good games.

                  Pfft wut about warhawk!?

Wasn't the game so bad that they just ditched the single player then just offed it as a multiplayer download?

U dont know wtf ur talking about! They wanted to focus on multiplayer duh!!"

I was happy about these new rules at first. But I think just being told we're acting like idiots would work better.

i agree 100% overly harsh, a hard poke in the chest would set us strait instead.

yeah, we've been trying that for years. it just doesnt work.

there is absolutely nothing in that list that will keep people from criticizing games or systems. it just forces people to be intelligent about it.

i think it's less about being fascist about these rules and more about having justification for closing threads as soon as they become mindless puking contests.

i agree with that yet each has its place. to go to the other extreme wouldnt solve anything, there has to be a middle ground. a bit steeper rules would be best i think. atleast there wont be any infractions given out and the worst that can happen is your post getting axed.
