1. Generally the best way is to make new - advanced options - background/transparant and use select by color, select continious regions, or the intellegent scissors to get the selection you want.
2.Just use the scale image or scale layer options.
for adding transparency to most already-existing pictures, i usually use the layer>transparency>color-to-alpha or alpha-to-selection.
for the vast majority of uses, GIMP is on par with photoshop. and with the CMYK gap filled, it's that much smaller of a difference. though i don't make any claims at being an expert on the subject.
Ok, can someone please help me? I've tried for the life of me but I still cant get an image background transparent, or crop out the shape I want. I know I'm missing something, but I just don't know what it is.
All I want to do is crop out some heads from the rest of the pics.
