My Windows Media Player is dying...help!

Everytime I try to play a song now, it gives me a red circle with a white x and refuses to play the song, has anyone else had this problem? The program is completely up to date and it started doing it for no reason all of a sudden.

Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.
The file is closed, its a local computer not on a network, and I havent touched the proxy's

All that means is that you moved the files, usually.

I havent moved the files, actually I cleared out all the files after I got the message and had WMP search and retrieve them again and I still get the same error message

This happened to me after installing an update or something, but I was left with no sound on my pc what so ever. After a few day's, it all went back to normal.

        ???

And yes, I did turn the sound on.

What hito said, you might just want to delete the playlist and start over because a file or folder may have been moved/renamed

              Don't touch WinAmp.

On a different note. Why are you using a Screen Capture utility instead of good ole' Prnt Scrn?

Vista has an even better thing than Print Screen.

And WinAmp is awesome, but if you like WMP don't abandon it.

I'll be the one to say it:

                    Maybe you should try iTunes?

itunes isnt bad but i find apple to be evil beyond reproach. winamp is quick and dirty and wont harass you with a latest version every other week. the interface is rediculessly simple and just works.

Does any other sound on your pc work?

                          Uninstall it and reinstall it?

Do you have anything positive to say anymore to anyone? What happened to the old perv?

Anyways, to JVR, no, in fact I dont have any sound at all now except on web pages, and the programs list doesnt have WMP for me to uninstall, or a uninstall program that Im aware of, and any other WMP program wont install because it says I have a current version and have to uninstall that first.
