DAMN YOU 6th GEN IPOD CLASSIC!! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!

Ive always HATED iTunes. What an annoying POS way to put songs on an MP3 player.

First time it ****** me off was when without me knowing it rearranged my whole song library the first time I used it. Then after that all kinds of stuff would never play, WE'RE SORRY IPOD DOES NOT SUPPORT THAT FORMAT, blah blah blah.

So then as you may have read in my other topic, my parents got me an 80gig Ipod for my birthday. Its a little bit of overkill. 80gigs, dear god. But the thing is its a 6th gen classic. And these suckers run on a new/different version of itunes, or whatever. The screen and graphics look alot different than my iPod Nano. Im guessing this has something to do with my problem.

BUT FOR WHATEVER GODDAMNED REASON, IT WONT PLAY ALOT OF MY PLAYLISTS, WHERE AS MY IPOD NANO PLAY THEM ALL JUST FINE. **** YOU ITUNES.

I even tried selecting the playlists that didnt work, and used iTunes crap to configure all the songs into mp3s. I then took all those new mp3 versions of the songs, made them into a new playlist, and they still didnt work. So basically it will be sitting in my drawer, and Ill be using my Nano until I figure out why this new behemoth wont play anything. Id totally switch over to the Rockbox OS in an instant if their battery life wasnt so greatly reduced by the OS.But if I cant figure out whats wonrg, and a version of Rockbox comes out for the new 6th gens, ima preplace itunes in an instant.

    So yeah. **** iTunes.

Meh, I just use plain ol' mp3 players. Apparently it saves me a ton of grief.

If youve pruchased the songs from iTunes the DRM on the tracks only allows you to play them on the iPod you downloaded the song to, which may be your problem.

      http://www.thetravelinsider.info/mp3...80gbreview.htm

Ita about 75% of the way down

Furthermore, the quality of iTunes music is not as good as the quality of the music on a CD, so you're actually getting less for your money. Plus the copy protection (what is now referred to as 'Digital Rights Management' (DRM) - a new-age marketing term that actually means digital lack of rights control) and not having a physical recording means you can't easily swap or re-sell the music with/to someone else, and you have restrictions on how you can listen to the music.

Not only does the DRM policy restrict your ability to play the songs you buy on other devices (you can play the songs on five computers and one iPod) it also restricts your ability to play it on other non-iPod devices. If you subsequently decide to replace your iPod with a Microsoft Zune, for example, all your investment in iTunes music will be completely wasted and useless, because the Zune uses a different, incompatible type of DRM.
Something else I found, the problem had to deal with songs
I was having the same problem with mine trying to transfer podcasts. I have my ipod set up for manual selection only. If I selected a number of podcasts from the iTunes library and dragged them to the ipod not all the podcasts would transfer across. I then tried to move individual problem podcasts onto the ipod. It would show the green plus sign, but when I released the mouse button to complete the action nothing would happen. Looking at one of the podcast titles, I wondered if it might be due to some of the characters used. I changed the podcast title by deleting a colon. After this I was able to move it to the ipod with no problems. I then went and looked at other problem podcasts. None of them had unusual characters in the titles, but by changing the title slightly they transferred to my ipod without a hitch.

i have some of the problems but not to that degree. my songs work for the most part, perhaps you are not updating or synchronizing your ipod? since im not doing 4 hours of travel every day anymore i havent touched my ipod.

i became annoyed by the itunes shop which steals valuable space. if i want to access the store i will go to it, i dont want to be inundated with it. the anti "theift" thing blows, it cant tell the difference between a dled song and a song i got thats free (oc remix, some site promo music, custom made pieces and so on).

i wont buy apple again, ever.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

Whats wrong with having just a normal MP3 player? That way you dont have to deal with licenses and stuff...dont make sense to me

i just wanted something small that played mp3s so i could take my music on the go. why do they have to assault me with all the other crap? i bought apple becuase it was the leading company in the industry and i wanted to give them a shot to impress me with something in tune with mainstream culture.

My relative buys stuff off of iTunes...

Then burns them on a cd

Kinda defeats the purpose of iTunes.

                Ooh, rebel, burning music!

I still use my creative zen microphoto. Eight GB, battery lasts between 10-14 hours, small enough not to be in the way when it's clipped to my belt.

I don't like the touch-sensitive pads versus my old iRiver's buttons, but I'm also not about to buy a refurbished iRiver and they don't make the kind I want anymore. But my zen still works, which is something, because my iRiver died after only a year and a half.

I can also use pretty much any media player to transfer music, or I can just drag and drop using Explorer.

EDIT: I'm also a fan of Sansa players, as I got a 1 GB version for free and it's quite nice. I have to be a lot more selective in the music I take with me everywhere when using this one, but it's a lot more compact, the battery lasts just as long as the microphoto, and it has all the same capabilities of transferring music any way I please.

Plus radio and sound recorder and picture viewing, which are all "meh" to me.

                    1. What 'space' is an optional online-music-purchasing interface taking up? How is it bothering you?
                    2. This anti "theift" thing you speak of, are you referring to the embedded DRM in m4a's downloaded only from the iTunes music store?

If you had bothered to read any information about this new MP3 player you purchased and its partner software, you would have known the limits to its music formats and what "organizing your music library" means and how to avoid it if you don't want it.

Yeah, I don't know about your playlist situation, I've never had any problems with my setup. Then again, iTunes on windows is supposed to be almost as bad as Office on a Mac.

Currently using a 5th gen iPod Video 60Gig. Ran out of space long ago with cartoons and podcasts, so I had to cut back. Now I'm running out of space with 47.19 gigs of music, or 11,945 songs. I wouldn't call an 80 gig an overkill, but it seems that most people are buying these giant MP3 players with tiny music libraries to jump on the trend.

on the bottom of the itunes it has a big bar which has all of the itunes music store info including ads and other things. when i first got itunes it was considerably smaller and may actually of not been there at all (got it 3 years ago i think). i prefer having no such thing when im scrolling as i like maximum space for my songs to appear given the volume of music i have and customization of titles, track info, and playlist sorting i do, so it bothers me alot. i guess its about preference more then anything.

no idea about the anti theft thing, i dont like to buy my music song by song. the songs it blocks are usually mp3s though it has blocked other files (wma i think). most often it will convert the wma and work find but its even blocked some cds of music i had, forcing me to dump the files onto my computer, turning them into mp3s and adding them that way. it has to be a conflict with anti piracy measures.

You can easily turn off that mini bar.

The iTunes program has no piracy protection. When it "blocks" files, you're probably messing up, or they're bad files.

how do i turn it off? ive looked everywhere without sucess.

the files play fine outside of itunes.

                              ah, beat me to it.

iTunes works great for me as well as my iPod. I need to upgrade, my 30g is almost full.
