Some newer anime series Ive started watching. It deals with some very weird, and freaky Virtual Reality stuff.
Basically entire cities have been mapped out with 3d models, and thats all layered overtop of all the real stuff, but the technology has gone far enough to make it look real as real can get. So an exact 3d replica of a house is placed over the real house, so it can interact with the vitrual world. But the only way to be able to see this stuff is by wearing special glasses.
People wear these glasses and through hand signals, and voice commands, they can bring up menus and all kinds of things right in front of them. But only people wearing the glasses can see this stuff. Tons of people seem to use them for everyday life, and you can even buy virtual things, and store tons and tons of huge virtual things in your wallet, or purse, or pocket, like people in video games do.
People even have virtual pets. They pet them and talk to them and everything, but they cant really feel them, since they are only existing in this virtual world, mapped over the real world. Real things seem to be able to affect the virtual world. Like if a car hits something virtual itll mess it up, just like if it was real. And from what Ive watched it also works in reverse somewhat. A girl slaps a VR tag onto a street light and it makes the lights go all haywire.
So with VR comes hackers, and living AI antivirus programs that roam the city fixing bugs, and catching viruses. They fix stuff with lasers. If these lasers hit your glasses, it frys them and erases all the data you have on them, since its trying to erase viruses and whatnot.
While the show is interesting, the idea of the world they are in itself is what really boggles my mind. Imagine being in a place like that. I could totally see sometime in the future where stuff kind of like that will start being made a reality. Its kinda freaky really.
