What's your favorite cover version of a song?

Decided to make a light and fluffy topic after what I posted last night.


I'm partial to Low's cover of Joy Division's Transmission, and actually, this is about the only cover song that I think is better than the original.

Nine Inch Nails' cover of Joy Division's Dead Souls from The Crow soundtrack isn't bad, either. Moby's Joy Division cover sucks, though.

Another cover I really like is The Clash's cover of I Fought the Law. It's just so upbeat...it gets me in a good mood every time I hear it.

I might think of more later.

There's a pretty good Rubber Soul Covers Compilation...

Sufjan Steven's cover of 'What Goes On' is so pretty it hurts.

I'm fond of Johnny Cash's version of Hurt. I actually like it a lot more than the original NIN version.

Smurtle...yeah, it worked, although I thought by reading the title that it was gonna be a Velvet Underground cover. Also, it was good, don't get me wrong, but I personally wouldn't use the word "pretty" to describe it.

I use words like "pretty," "hauntingly beautiful," and such mainly to describe a lot of songs by Low (on their first two albums, especially Long Division), and somewhat for Dead Can Dance. The only song with a male vocal off the top of my head that I could really describe in those terms would be Nick Drake's Northern Sky.

I like Metallica's version of Astronomy and Tuesday's Gone was ok.
The rest of the album sucks.
