I hate to admit it...but I'm stuck in Final Fantasy for the PSP already!

What level should my party be to defeat Garland?

Thanks Max Power, Sorry if I'm sounding like a n00b but this is the first time I played the original Final Fantasy before

If you're playing it on the authentic difficulty, it's a ***ch! But thats why I love it. It's one of my fav's.

I played it when it first came out on the NES, and then bought the PS1 disc with FF1 and 2, and then Dawn of Souls for the GBA. Unfortunately, it's just not the same as it once was.

Level 5 is overkill. You don't need more than level 3 to take him down.

Usually, I can dispose of him at level 2. He's not that hard at all, and I usually play the NES version or Origins on Normal difficulty.

I don't think you could survive the first dungeon at level 2, let alone the boss.
              but what do I know.

Yeah, I used to have the nes one a long time ago. I hated how your guys would attack thin air if their was no enemy left.

Depends on the party. If you've got some healing abilities, then level 2 becomes much more viable.

And I always turn off the attack redirecting on Origins, I learned to play the game that way, and turning it on develops bad habits.

Fighter, REDMAGE , Whitemage, Blackmage.. Thief sucks, and I don't really care much for the monk

Just for fun, you should make a party of all white mages. I used to play this game so much way back when that I used to make silly parties like that just to see how far I could get.

Fighter, Red Mage, White Mage, and Black Mage can easily pwn Garland at level 2.

I've been trying the 4 White Mage game, and I think I took down Garland at either level 2 or 3 with them too. So yeah, Garland is a chump.

Honestly, beating Garland for me isn't the problem using low-level characters. It's making it through all of the wolves and other enemies in that dungeon that gives me problems. It's like this: If I go into the dungeon at level 2/3, by the time I get to Garland, I don't have enough potions, etc., to survive the fight with him, as I used them all trying to fight/run away from all the other enemies. And by the time I could afford to buy enough potions to survive those battles, and have decent weapons/armor/spells, I would have had to have fought MANY random battles just to get the money to afford them, at which point in time I was no longer level 2/3. I would probably have been at level 4/5. Then again, I've not played this game for a while, so maybe I'm talking out of my ass.

Also, Max Power, read this explanation.

No, I agree as this was the point I was trying to make. The game just wears you down so that the bosses themselves aren't so tough, but the process of getting to them is.

The final boss of the game was a push over, but getting their with enough potions and magic left over was a real challenge.
