I thought it’d be nice if there were a topic like this since Dave Carter has made quite a few games and some great games. Post whatever you think is the best Dave Carter game, maybe what great events happened in some of his games, or whatever is great about Dave Carter's games. I’ll start off with SD Paradise:

Anyway, after playing SD Paradise, I just wanted to say that I LOVED IT! This game is quite possibly the greatest game ever made with the RPG Maker 2 (I think).

When I was about to play this game, I was in for a real treat. I read the reviews and looked at the screen shots. I knew this game had to be good. And the reviews didn't lie. It was really good. In fact SUPERB! Okay, so it sounds like I'm over exaggerating. But I promise you this (people who haven't played this game), it IS a great game and you should definitely check this game out (even though it's just a demo :( ).

First off, may I say that this game looks beautiful? I mean honestly, it's just simply put: beautiful. There's just no way anybody can call it "crap" or even "mediocre". If you look at some of the screen shots, you’ll know what I mean. The world just comes alive. I can’t really say much else about the layouts and everything except the game takes place in a rainy tropical paradise and it’s absolutely gorgeous.

Okay, another thing, the game-play was great! Even though the concept was pretty simple, Dave Carter really put the “fun” into collecting things. I remember playing a lot of games where you collect these “jiggies” and it was really dull and boring. But Dave Carter turned that all around (and put the frown upside down :lol ). I really don’t know what it was that made the game-play so great, maybe it was that I didn’t have to go after 1 type of “jiggy” and maybe the gem collecting mini-game helped as well.

Another thing I liked about this game, is that this game was for almost every age group. And I’d imagine it’d be quite hard to make a great game for everyone. So, there was a part that someone said the Lord’s name in vain. But honestly, who cares? At least it’s not as bad as lets say “Fu-Fu the Acid Trip Bunny” when some high school students take acid or when Fu-Fu goes down and dirty with some female rabbits once you’ve completed the “naughty levels”. Basically, SD Paradise is suitable for everyone.

Overall, this game is awesome, and anyone who hasn’t checked this game out should. However, there’s some flaws in this game like spelling errors and things that didn’t make any sense (ex: door swinging constantly). So those need to be fixed. Oh, and Dave Carter, PLEASE FINISH THIS GAME UP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME AS A WHOLE!

Nanobot.

'Nuff said.

Nanobot is great. I was so impressed with that when I first saw it. I love nanobot's design and the "metalstorm" flipping idea. Makes the levels really interesting.

Despite all its flaws, I also enjoyed Cosmic Woodchuck. But I think there are still several glitches that can seriously mess up the experience... plus it's pretty long.

And who could forget CRAZY HORSE! The game that EGM seemed to think was at least well drawn. :lol It was X-rated (in terms of language and subject matter), and it was the first game he ever made on RPGmaker, so it's not very polished. It certainly has its charm, though. Giving Elton John the coke was fun.

Speaking of which, I like the Bush game, because that's the only one I worked on. It's a weird combination of our humor, writing and art. I think that's why people really like it. That, and TEAM LIBERAL!

I would love to eventually make GWBCQ2: "WAR WERE DECLARED" but we would need an RPGmaker game with better custom art options.

I think Cosmic Woodchuck is the only one I haven't played. I'm going to say Nanobot is my favorite so far, but Pixel chaser was good fun, too.

I've played all but two of the RPGM2 games so far. I plan on playing them over the weekend.

I think Nanobot, and Bush game are my favorites so far. But I have to say, the Sprite Chaser was extremely inventive, although a bit on the easy side, since there was no timer.

Nixon, for an RPG Maker with better graphical customization, I guess you'll be waiting a bit longer. I was pretty sure agetec would announce RPG Maker XP for the US at E3, but its not in their lineup. which is strange, because agetec hinted the hell out of it last fall on their forums.

L4m3.

I've yet to try a full Dave Carter game for some reason.

I've mentioned this before, but we have most of the game written, and almost all of the enemies drawn out. I started drawing the enemies on RPGmaker 1, but we stopped because 2 was coming out and we thought it would have more customization than it did. Oh well.

I had a thing for meeting tricky Dick at the save point...

Oh, 10 points!

RPGM2 has a lot of graphical customization.

RPGProgrammer made some pokemon in it.

You can make stuff from scratch? Or did he do it by changing existing models?

RPGD

I made it entirely out of VFX and animated it however I felt like.

So, theorectically, I could manipulate the same VFX and get a three headed reporter demon enemy with multiple microphones and cameras?

Exactly.

But would it be a big pain in the ass?

Not if you seperate the body parts properly.

I may have to tinker around with it when I'm done with my latest worthless endevor. But I'll probably end up waiting for the next one. I'm not really thrilled with RPGmaker 2.

And I love Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Caramel Fudge.

Dave needs more ice cream in his games.

I think that's something we can all agree upon.

The SD Paradise demo was good as a demo, but it had its flaws, so it's not at all the best RPGM2 game out there. It's only a demo so I don't mean to be harsh, but in the next demo/full game of it (if it ever comes), noticable and important improvements would be:

Use Enter Events instead of Intro Events for the camera and weather
Eliminate some visual stuff where it lags (optional)
Use more dynamic camera angles during cutscenes
Have less unnecessary dialogue
Don't allow the player to get stuck and have to quit in the first mini game (collected red gems one)
Alter character model proportions (optional)
Apply custom camera system (optional)

Accounting its release this is all very acceptable stuff, but calling it the best RPGM2 game isn't just. It would be nice if he put up a newer demo with this stuff fixed.

So far, for me, the best RPGM2 demo I've played was probably either Pseudothello or Doan's unititle RPG, closely followed by Vanished Nights and Zelda: Sword of Magic, but I've still yet to play a whole lot of RPGM2 games/demos so this is not definitive! So far every RPGM2 game or demo I've played has shown quite a lot of talent and potential. (I'm really looking forward to DW's waitressing mini game as I've heard a lot of great stuff about it)

Alas, to stay on topic, I don't know which Dave Carter game I'd say is best, but I must say, I think this is the best topic ever made in this forum! :lol

that list is depressingly small. I wish RPGM2 had more users...

Then again Will, the only other games I really played are: Nash's Zelda game, Doan's tech demo, your demo, and the Crown of Order demo. And I must say that SD Paradise was the most fun. Therefore, it's my favorite game made with RPG Maker 2. My opinion may change however.

EDIT: But yeah, I need to play more games made with RPG Maker 2 before I ever say it's the best game made with RPG Maker 2. But its still a great game and the best Dave Carter game I've played so far.

I uploaded a new demo today that's WAY better than the old one. There's still not much to play though.

George W. Bush's Cocaine Quest was outright beatiful in execution. If RPGM3 won't allow a sequel, I'll just have to help Dave and Nix make it with another program, like sphere, in which they'd draw the art and tell me the scenes, and I'd put it to reality. I want to see a GWBs CQ 2!

If you're looking for fun, Hippy Hunt 2's the way to go. :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs

I was crackin' up so hard from it. It's very amazing. Most fun I've had with RPGM2 yet.

Thanks for the topic, Hedrum. I was pretty shocked to see this. I've been playing snake eater for days and didn't get a chance to see this thread.
yeah, I've made alot of games and demos for ps1 and ps2, but I have to say that my favorite has to be SD Paradise. I haven't thought about it in a LONG time, but I'm pretty proud of that little demo. It's got alot of room for improvement and alot of little things that need fixing. I swear I'll finish it someday when I have the proper drive to tackle rpg maker 2 again. I'm sure all designers that have invested any serious amount of time into rpg maker 2 will tell you it's truly an undertaking compared to the other versions in the franchise.
I look forward to the american release of the new ps2 rpg maker.
I'm glad people still think about my games. It's very appreciated.
