Another stupid question about max drives!

Is an "Action Replay Max" the same as a max drive? I was checking one out today, it was $40 and there were no spec's on the package for me to read.. All it said was that it could be used for video game cheats. There was no picture, no detail or anything.
Are they the same thing? Is it just as good as a max drive, or is it a waste of money?

If I can't find a max drive, is there a "next best" type of drive anyone would recommend?(Obviously for uploading and downloading games from here)

It has a max drive in it, along with some other things. I don't know the details, though. Sorry.

I own an Action Replay Max (which I also bought for $40) My Best Buy receipt calls it the Evo Edition (no clue why). It's what I use for downloads and uploads of games. It works just fine.

      It comes with
-a metal box that has the words "AR Action Replay Max - The Ultimate Cheat System - Unleash the Power....Beat the Game" on it.
      -a USB flash drive.
-Action Replay Max disk (for PS2)
-Media Creation Software disk [have never used it]
      -Instruction Manual
-tip sheet for playing CD-R media on the PS2

I own the one pictured first in this post:

The Action Replay Max that I bought only has a cheat disk and a regular 8Mb memory card....so I'd be careful before ordering that, if you're mainly interested in the MAX drive itself. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I can't order one because I don't have a credit card. The one I saw was the lower of the two pagerron posted. It doesn't say anything on the box.. How large are the game files on average? is an 8mb drive too small? I don't want to get screwed on this, and the store employees are completely clueless, so they are obviously no help at all.

LOL! No kidding...I went to EB games about 3 times looking for a MAX drive before I finally SAW one behind the counter. When the guy said 'I don't know what you're talking about' the 4th time I said "THAT THING RIGHT BEHIND YOUR HEAD...THE THING THAT SAYS MAX DRIVE IN HUGE LETTERS ON THE COVER..." I just happened to be at the counter when I asked that time.

Oh, and 8Mb will work...it's the same size as a regular Memory card, but naturally the bigger it is, the better. You can't rename the files on the max drive itself, and even if you rename them on your computer, the MAX drive will change the name right back to RM37496789475.MAX very annoyingly...so I never put more than one RM3 data on mine anyway if I can possibly avoid it. The rest of the space on it just gets used for storage of other PS2 files.

I wish I knew an Action Replay Max will work, otherwise I would have got one long ago

I just bought the lower one a week ago today and it has worked great

Oh... and the most I have on mine is three. If you have more then one game from slot one they say the same thing so can't tell witch is witch. I have three one for each slots so youn can tell what the games are.

Re: Another stupid question about max drives!

When you're creating an RPGM3 game, it saves it initially to slot 1, 2, or 3. When you download someone else's game, and uncrush it onto your (8MB) memory card, it will put it in the respective slot. So if you already have a game occupying slot 1, and try to put another one there, I forget exactly, but it'll either ask you to overwrite, or it won't even let you put it there.

My advice to you is, if you plan on making games, have AT LEAST 1 memory card devoted SOLELY to your RPGM3 creations (I have 5), and if you plan on downloading games, have 1 or more (depending on how often you play others' games) memory card devoted SOLELY to downloaded games. Also, as mentioned by Obright, it's usually a good idea to put only one downloaded game in each save slot on a Max Drive at a time. Otherwise, you might end up with two files on your Max Drive that say "RPGM3 Save Slot 1" or something, and there will be no way to know which one you are putting on your memory card.

There is a trick you must understand before you can save or uncrush anything. First, you must learn what file number it is if you are using RPG Maker 2. The Max Drive will not be able to uncrush it if they have the same file number. For example, if your game is save on the 0 slot on the games save screen then any file you try to uncrush to that memory card with the same save number, 0, will not be able to be uncrushed. The solution is either, two memory cards if you don't want to erase you save game or crush your game to the MaxDrive so that the space will be open to save in.

                              MAX Drive isn't good!
I use Codebreaker, which have the Pen Drive option with. I get the games in any format and I use the PS2 save converter to convert in .cbs, which is the Codebreaker save format, and to know which DATA is I look in the final name of the save, which appears in ID. If the letter in the final is "a", then is DATA1, "b" DATA2, and "c" DATA3. Then I go in Save as... and put DATA(number) in the final of the name. Then I put the save on my Pen Drive and move it to my memory card with the Codebreaker! Simples!!! hehehe
You can Download Codebreaker here: www.tigersid.com
