    College Dayz

I'm a senior in high school, ergo I have to make a decision on which college I'll go to. Let me tell you.....I am so friggin' nervious!

This is by far the most stressful moment in my life so far (besides driver's education)! It's like I'm staring the real world in the face! What if I pick the wrong college?! What if I fail?!

I just read Death of a Salesman in Drama, and that did not help! The guys in that play were failures, and there was so much faith put into them! What if I end up like that?!

Were any of you guys worried about this?

Don't be afraid. It's a big choice on what college to go to, but don't stress yourself out over it. Just calm down and compare and contrast and find which one is right for you.

Hell, I was nervous too. See, I had this crazy idea that Duke was the perfect college for me...because I won a basketball with the name at King's Dominion. Considering the fact that my SAT scores weren't even close to what the college wanted plus a $70 registration fee, I opted out, and didn't really know where I was going to go. Then, I got a call from my current college, Lynchburg College, attended the overnight experience, and then believed I made the right choice.

Dude, you will find a college that you'll call home. Just relax.

        I wasn't worried.

Which is odd because I worry about everything else.

Also, I applied to two colleges, University of Illinois and Northwestern. Both had highly rated journalism programs (Illinois' grad program, at the time, was number three in the country, and Northwestern's was number one), and I was gonna major in journalism. I got accepted at Illinois. I never even got a response from Northwestern, although my grades/ACT were definitely good enough to get in there. I didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to contact them to see if I was accepted or not, so I decided to go to Illinois. It was a hell of a lot cheaper, anyway. In my two years there, I accumulated about $2500 in loans, and only paid about $700-800 out of my own pocket each semester. Plus, I got free money for books. Granted, this was back when Illinois only cost about $8000 a year. Looking back on it, I probably should have contacted Northwestern, because I might have actually graduated from college then.

Thanks, Perv. A nice back-story, too.

I worried about picking the wrong college and becoming a failure and all that. And all my fears were realized. I say this to tell you not to let fear and worry keep you from achieving your goals. If you believe you'll succeed you will, if you believe you'll fail you will.

Seniority in high school should be the best time in your life. Especially near the end when you get to go on senior excursions and legally ditch a whole day. God, those days were fun. I remember mine when we went to Catalina Island for the whole day. The freshmen were studying for their final tests while I got to go to the casino, the Wrigley Mansion, and pay a visit to two charming arcades. (I remember beating Final Fight with a friend of mine using only five tokens!)

Then at graduation, we had grad nite at the quad and partied (no alcohol--just sodas, ping pong tables, more arcade machines and some dance-offs) until the wee hours of midnight. It was the last time I ever stepped foot on my high school campus.

College should also be a defining moment in your life--a time where you have to make your own decisions on what path you wish to take. No one will make those decisions for you. You have a greater degree of freedom, but at the same time, you're also making informed decisions. Figure out what your true passion is, and use it as your major. Mine is Studio Art because I've always had a fondness for paintings and their history and meaning.

So....yeah, go get 'em and good luck.

It doesn't really matter what college to go to, unless you're going for an intense science, medical, or law degree. Just stay clear of ****ty schools like Devry, ITT Tech, University of Phoenix and the like.

Who knows, maybe your no name school might become well known in a year through a crazy football season, like my USF!

Or Columbia College of Chicago, IL! It's a nationally reknowned arts college, but it sucked when I went there for a Fictional Writing Class at a High School Summer Institute (where high school students across america could come, take real classes, and earn real college credit at a drastically reduced price. But my teacher, oh don't get me started! He was uder-creepy! He would get soooooo off track. At one point, he had as so off track by making us say curse words in foregin languges that we knew (I said the German word for the b-word)! Yeah, I'm serious! It was really stupid!

And I could've learned more about writing in a math class than I did there! Plus I always felt I was pressured to write explisive work, which the students of this college often does. Plus the sight of that old guy (the teacher) talking about that kinda thing or reading about it, GROSS!

And it was a nationally acclaimed arts school for Pete's sake! Huge dissapointment, because I orignally wanted to go there. Ah well, least I learned about it before it was too late.

I must agree. I don't think it is.

I just went to the place that offered to pay for my tuition.

                        It was an easy choice.

Like Slowpoke said, just go to places that don't suck.

                          Otherwise, it doesn't matter.

Just do internships and join lots of clubs and groups so you can establish networks.

IRC knows of what he speaks. When you get down to it, that's more important than earning the degree.
