How Do You Get Yourself to Work on RPG Maker?

Because I have no work ethic. I barely work on my game, and when I do, I spend two hours making a minor adjustment or two... or napping while listening to the Editor Theme How do you motivate yourself to work on your projects?

DUDE, I have the same problem

Hey look everyone, theStormWeaver has returned! And with an all new Avatar

    How yall been?

Back to topic: I really just have to be in the mood. One thing that can help is to write stuff down in a notebook, it helps you keep on track and actually get crap done while your still in the mood to get crap done. And, atleast for me, when you see that your getting stuff done all the time you get excited and want to work on it some more.

Why don't you try that and get back to me

          ...

I can't wage war against all of you.

Dusk, if your work ethic sucks, then work on your work ethic. We've discussed this before because you can't concentrate on your homework. Just buckle down and do it, or give up and find something you can concentrate on.

sometimes i just keep my game on and running. then, ill do other stuff while thinking of how i want to make this or that work or how i might connect this character with that one, etc. when a good idea hits me, i can just walk over and try to make it happen the way i want it. because sometimes, a great idea will come over me when im too far away from the game and ill eventually lose it.

I set off a reminder on my cell phone that say "RPGM3". Lot's of times it's put on ignore though. But I get alot more work done that way.

I listen to music when I work on it. If I hear a really good line in a song it sometimes gives me ideas for a game. Sometimes you just need to force yourself into doing it. When I do that after a while I really get into it. Don't know why???

Also if you have a max drive try playing someone elses game. That has worked for me.

During a phase of boredom just boot it up and mess around, ie., make some creatures or fool around with a town layout/field manager, after messing with stuff it will almost definitely give you some new ideas and that will kick off getting some work done

You wouldn't believe the amount of times I've done exactly the same thing. I'll turn on RPGM3 and just let it sit on the edit screen while I just THINK about ideas I have and how I want to incorporate them into my current game. But usually, this is either late at night, or right after I come home from work, so I usually end up falling asleep for a bit. Then I wake up, and decide it's time to go to bed, and turn the PS2 off. When I wake up the next day, and try to get back to work on my game, I'll realize that I failed to write any of my ideas down, and they are kind of a fuzzy cloud in my mind.

I really need to work on my games again.

I think my terrible work ethic in RPG Maker comes from overexposure to the system. I've played it for years and don't have the same drive to make games as I used to. I wish I could make it come back cause I know I'd get a game finished in a few weeks if I did.

I could see how hard it would be to keep on churning games out if you have made a couple already or have been playing it for a long time... you could always wait around for part 4!!! haha

some valid suggestions and arguments in this topic already.

i would suggest only playing the game when you feel the vibe to work on your game, like when your inspired and fired up. also playing music other then the games own creation soundtracks is recommended as after listening to home 3 for 600 hours you might as well just commit harikiri. you may like to create a storyboard just as if you where making a comic or a book. this way when you do decide to create stuff on your game you know where you are going and you have a list of stuff to do rather then nitpick and edit. you also save alot of time by creating useful stuff rather then making total crap and figuring out it doesnt work.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!
Card Three is released! You can find it here!

I would definitely agree with messing around with story editor... use it to make out some stories or ideas, kind of like an interactive notebook

You could always go back later and tweak it of course
