But yeah, the game looks great. I love R-Type, but I'm not quite sure about the "tactics" thing.

Some screens look like normal R Type fun, but the others I dunno.

R-Type Final had a versus mode where you set computer AI for a selected ship, your friend does the same thing, and you watch the ships fight each other in a weird space battle.

I'm guessing Tactics takes that concept to another level, where you strategically place ships and watch them blast at the Bydo. I'd rather control the ship directly and engage in classic arcade shooting action instead of just telling my ship what to do and watching them do it, but that's just me.

I don't know--even though it looks great, I think R-Type Tactics compromises the spirit of the R-Type series just a little by making it into a tactical, strategic board game. But I might still look into this in hopes of changing my mind.
