    $ and You

Lately, thinking more about the future, I've been trying to put aside between 5% and 10% of every paycheck into a savings account. I wish I would have started this years ago, but I guess better late than never, as they say. It's been kind of frustrating though because I really have to be careful with every other penny then.

-Do you save money every month?
    -If so, how much?
-How do you save it? A Savings account, investments, under your bed?

I have $80 a month direct-deposited into a savings account, which is currently showing $1,200.
I have two IRAs, one is currently sitting at about $4,000 doing a whole lot of nothing, and the other accumulates $100 a month between my and my employer's contributions, and is up to $1,400 or so last I checked. It's pretty new.
I have another savings account with $3,400.

        ... I have a lot of money. ****.

ive always had a pile of cash in a savings account but i probably could of used it better, invested it or something classy. when i start work ill dump it to get rid of half my school loan.

ill worry about saving after ive paid off some debts.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

              Re: $ and You

I like to put away at least a hundred dollars each payday, so twice a month. Usually, I pay my bills and then see how much I have left over, then save as much as I can without screwing myself over until the next pay.

I'm getting a raise at the end of this month, so I'll be able to save more!

The way I keep from spending it is easy - my bank stinks, so they only let me access my savings account by intarwebs and it takes a full business day to take money out of it. Once I put it in there, I can't touch it unless I exert effort.

Wow. Your bank sucks, Rena. I can access all my moneys as soon as the direct deposit goes in, or as soon as I cash a check, even a personal check.

                  Re: $ and You

I still live with my folks, and luckily they don't charge rent. I always keep about $1000 in my checking account, and move everything else to a savings account. I also normally don't go out, so I don't spend too much of my money anyway. No girlfriend either, so LOTS OF MONEY SAVED!

But it's because of the no bills that I saved enough to pay for my Honda Civic (2006) in full the day I went out to buy it. Still took a while to save up, though.

I've had several pay raises since then, so saving is becoming easier for me, for when I eventually move out to find my own place.

no job, so no money here. but, when i do have a job, im pretty good with my money. i always like getting my physical paycheck rather than getting direct deposit. as im on my way to the bank, i make a decision of how much id like to have on me and how much ill put into my checking account, depending on how much ive been paid.

so right now, im in the negative though. i owe money, but not much.

I'm running low on cash, like 1,700. But I should have a job soon thanks to a tip-off.

I have a savings account but I don't actually have an income. The only money I get right now is my student loans. And when I graduate I'll have to find some way to start paying it all back. Last time I had a job was Summer 05 and it was a super crappy minimum wage job that I worked less than 10 hours a week so pretty much no money there. I need a job but I also don't think I'm planning on staying in Charleston in 08.

                            Re: $ and You

I don't keep my money in banks(and I'd be stupid to say exactly where on a public forum), but I will have a job soon and with that, buttloads of cash.

And it's not going in a bank.

Of the money I will set aside and not spend on electric car/bills/ect.(which will be about half my income), a third of the money I set aside is going into gold/silver, a third is going to stock(companies such as Altair Nanotechnologies), and the other third is being donated to the poor.

I'll have more money than I'll ever need. I don't have it now, of course, but if I get a certain job next week, I will.
