So there is a new demo out on the Playstation store.

No not the Simpsons game, but Bladestorm. I played it for about 2 hours and it's pretty fun. Kind of like Kessen, but more focused around the player himself, and less so on the individual squads. Of course it's by Koei, but I think I'll be picking it up when it comes out, as I'm a sucker for a good strategy game, especially one where I can run around slashing and piercing people. So yeah go check out the demo, take a little bit to get used to, and of course there is the obligatory intro tutorial level, but I think it's fun.

Next to Skate and maybe folklore it's the demo I'm most exited about so far.

It's also out for Xbox Live. I tried it out, but combat seems too awkward. I realize it's a little more strategy than just run up and hack at the enemies, but yeah it does take some getting used to. But it's not for me, I don't have the patience for it's style.

It appears that Koei is opting another Dynasty Warriors in a medieval period.

Japan and China have been covered so far.

They have yet to do a Dynasty Warriors spinoff involving pirates and ninjas.

I played through a significant part of the demo before I got tired of straining my eyes to read the text.

It feels like a smarter Dynasty Warriors. Rather than just standing around and occasionally attacking your opponents the other soldiers under your command actually follow your orders and fight like normal people. Plus you have to make decisions about what tactic to use and which unit would best fit the situation.

I'll give it another chance later today. I just wish they'd stop making the text so damn small, or at least have an option for larger text for those of us who don't have, and can't buy, a big screen HD TV.

BladeStorm was one of the demos that I downloaded last night in addition to Ratchet and Clank, the Simpsons Game, Sega Rally Revo (hey, I used to play a little of Sega Rally on the Saturn!), and Armored Core 4.

I initially thought it was a Dynasty Warriors game set during the Medieval period of Europe, but it seems quite different. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the game as much as I thought I would. Like Tjoris said, the text is difficult to read if you don't have an HDTV, and I don't have one, so my eyes are shot from squinting to read it. (There's some hammy voice acting to help it along. ) At least you can create your own character--that's pretty cool. But all I did was run around in an open field and command a bunch of troops to attack another bunch of soldiers. I didn't get the chance to hack and slash a whole lot, because the game wouldn't let me do anything other than a shield attack and one heavy attack.

I applaud the effort on Koei's part, but the game didn't do it for me.

I just tried it. I was expecting Dynasty Warriors- or Drakengard-esque hack and slash. I was bored.
