Why is RPGM3 so damn popular?

Everywhere I see, there's lots of new games people are making....for RPGM3. Why is it so dang popular, even when some people (myself included) hate the game? Is it because it's still on store shelves?

Because all the new kids out there want to make games on the more visually pleasing RPGM3.

Because I don't have any other rpg maker.

I dunno, either. Everytime I try to make something with it I get bored and go to something else.

                    Yeah, that and the graphics.

Sorry...I really shouldn't have come off so harshly there, it's just that I get a lot of people saying that I like RM3 because I'm 'new to RPG making' (which I'm not), or that I 'just don't know any better' or something.

I've been making RPG's since about 1997, and since then I've used the OHR, RM1, and RM2...all of which I liked a lot, but all were lacking something that was personally very important to me. In many ways...in spite of its limitations...RM3 is exactly the maker that I've been wanting to use since then. And yes, the graphics have a great deal to do with that. With RM3 I can make worlds that are more engaging for me personally...with expansive vistas, realistic day/night phases, weather, and seasons. Also, I personally don't like the battle systems of any other maker as much as 3...and a lot of that is visual.

And honestly...aside from the fact that you can't move NPC's...there is very little in 3 that I've wanted to do and just couldn't in one way or another.

Re: Why is RPGM3 so damn popular?

I like RPG Maker 3 because of the great-looking graphics, the logical way the menus are laid out, the ease of creation (for sure).

It's not because I'm new to game-making either. I started making games for RPG Maker 1 a while ago. I own RPG Maker 2 as well and have messed around a bit with it (It was the reason I bought my PS2 in the first place).

Anyway, I like all of the makers, but RPG Maker 3 is the one that fits in best with the life I have outside of games/game-making.

I've tried RPG Maker 2. I like it, but it may take years before I make a game for it. At least I know how 3 works.

The main reason I like RM3 is because you don't have to do a lot of the little things that I don't really want to do. Like putting together every building piece by piece and filling each one with stuff so it's not empty but you can add details when you want to make your places more unique. I think the storytellers can be better for long conversations than cutscenes were. Or don't use storyteller but use animations on the characters. Not as boring as in RM1 or 2 when you'd have a couple characters just standing there talking. Of course it would be nice to be able to do action cutscenes and control the camera. And RM3's field editor is by far the best IMO. RM1's was just a map, and RM2's was way too complicated to use and was basically a 3D map. RM3 is the first to really put your character in the field.

I like RPGM3 because I can make a game for it and still have time to play other games I enjoy. I was making a game for RPGM2 and it took me 3 (more or less) hours just to create the first part of my intro (the thing that Valkysas reviewed for the contest forum). Rpgm3 I can make a map, town, characters, etc. in half that time.

I'm glad RPGM3 is doing better here in the Pav. There were initial complaints over its limitations, but people are beginning to utilize its potential in ways even I couldn't imagine. Look at how RPGM2 came out. It looks absolutely complicated, but people have done some really neat things with it--even stuff that's not RPG.
