    I Just Read Christine...

I just read Christine by: Stephen King. Here's some a advice, don't. It rambles on about nothing for probally 300 of the 500 pages. This isn't exactly a spoiler, but I'll put spoiler tags on it.
    *** SPOILERS ***
The car only kills 7 people. One time 3 people at once. So really out of the 500 pages about a car taht kills people tehre's only 4 scenes where the car kills people.
    *** END SPOILERS ***

This is the first Stephen King book, I've read. And the only other I could see me reading is Kujo. Anyways... Unless your really into Stephen King, I suggest not reading Christine. Maybe, I just didn't like it. If you like it go ahead and say so...

So you are complaining about the number of deaths that a demonic car has caused? What about the story?

The stories based on the car. Except it ramble's on nothingness for a long time. It's not a bad story but it rambles on way to long. He probally could of ended the book 100 pages before when it ends. IT JUST DRAGS ON AND ON!

Also the car does nothing until like page 230.

Not necessarily a good first book by Stephen King. I didn't want to watch the movie, because it looked cheesy, so I decided not to read the book, either.

My favorites are Different Seasons (includes the novellas that The Shawshank Redemption and Stand by Me were based on), The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, Dolores Claiborne, and Gerald's Game. I'd put Rose Madder and The Stand as honorable mentions. Oh, and you probably should read The Shining. Yeah, you picked a BAD first Stephen King book.

          Isn't King overrated anyway?

I never read any of his books, so my statement doesn't matter.

I haven't read a lot of Stephen King. I've liked most of what I have read though. Anyway, I think you'd have the same opinion of Cujo. The way I remember it the book was more about the woman and her family than the dog. And he also only killed a few people. The main thing I remember from the book was the woman's husband worked for a cereal company in some capacity and the red dye in the cereal gave a bunch of kids red poop. Parents freaked out thinking it was causing their kids colon's to bleed. Had nothing to do with the rest of the book but it was probably the most interesting part.

I read Kujo in high school. Utter crap. the only interesting part is in the last 100 pages. The rest is just background information and some screwed up families. I like the movies, but his books annoy me.

I like the connections between his books.

                  I also like Kujo.

I love Stephen King and his massive amount of backstory. I love how he'll write pages of background on a guy only to kill him off once he's done. Too me that's the best part of his writing. But I'll admit that he'll go off on some weird ass tangents. And of course after his accident he's been obsessed with inserting it into his books either in actual plot devices or just the thematic elements.

So if you don't like all the backstory then King's books probably aren't for you. But I recommend It, Desolation, From a Buick 8, and the first Gunslinger novels. Also maybe Pet Cematary. I refuse to finish reading it but maybe it'll work better for you.

King does ramble on a bit too much at points.

The Stand is really good, though.

Christine is the last King book I've read thus far. And it bears mentioning that whatever the title is talking about, the story is not going to focus centrally on that. King loves his characters, and like IRC said, he goes out of his way to develop these characters. The story always seems to come second, but it's still a pretty good story. Not his best, and probably one of my least favorite up to this point. Besides maybe Needful Things.

Just watch The Shining and ignore Stephen King, like I do.

Yes. Yes he is. He's a great writer, but his books drag on and on and on sometimes. But then, I've only read three books.

I'd recommend "It". That was my favorite by far.

That comment's very funny considering his book, "On Writing" is about how the story is the most important thing.
