Does a secret door have to be placed on the same map as its dungeon, or can it lead to a new field map?
Also, can it be placed on a town map/building map?

No.

I don't exactly remember, but I think it can be on a different feild map.
In a (now-defunct) game I made, I had a tunnel which had the entrance on one field, and when you got to the other end of the tunnel the secret entrance would lead to a different field. That way, I was able to link to fields together.

Reason: 1000 posts. EAT IT.
You could put a warp point on the other end of the door. That would make it easier. If you want to be able to return, put a decoration dungeon and put events around it to warp you to the location you exited from.
Another thing you could do is put a button event right in front of the secret wall so you would crumble the wall and warp at the same time.
Game in progress: "Cards of Destiny"!
How many of you have tried Game Maker, for PC?
