So I was down in Canon City to look at the leaves and walk across a bridge and we were eating lunch at this place “Pizza Madness” and they had brochures on the table with stupid little facts and ads for local businesses. One of the ads was for “The Game Exchange.” And I thought to myself, “hasn’t GameStop destroyed all the small mom and pop game stores from the ‘90s? Do little stores where you can find a deal on a rare game still exist?” And yet this place was exactly that. It had everything. Aqward silences, stunted conversations with socially retarded clerks desperate for a sale to keep their floundering business alive, and the best collection of retro games that I’ve ever seen for sale in one place. They had everything. Earthbound, all the Final Fantasys, Secret of Mana, Yoshi’s Island. All they were missing was Ogre Battle. It’s a shame too because they really had everything else. They even had Tomba for twenty bucks, Toaster. I walked away with Castlevania III, Harvest Moon SNES, and Mega Man I, II, and V for the Gameboy all for 75.00. It’s too bad this place is three hours away, because I feel like it’s the last of a dieing breed, and I want to give this place all the business I can.

Re: I found a place, it had some games
That place used to be really cool in my area, but the rare games never make it to the shelves. I saw a copy of the original Mega Man on NES once, no box, no instruction manual, and Bubble Bobble with box and instructions, but mostly they just have every crap game in existence, and every game that had a gazillion copies on any system ever.

Re: I found a place, it had some games
rock. i love places like that.
there's a small store about 25-30 min. away from where i live and they've got a pretty sizable selection of classics. they've got a Neo-Geo console with lots of games, Neo-Geo Pocket Color and games, SNES (not nearly as complete as the games you found at the game exchange), Sega Saturn with many many games (no Panzer Dragoon Saga though!) Dreamcast and lots of games, N64... and they have newer games too for Xbox360, PS3 and PS2 (which is probably how they stay in business).
me and a friend have always wanted to put up our own game store (because its a shame EB Games and Gamestop are essentially the only choices we have). he wants to throw in a nickel arcade and anime and everything too. im more of a game person, so anime isnt really my thing, but id love to have a place where i could offer the good stuff to people who really love games. just gotta find the money and the time to make it work... and a good location.

Re: I found a place, it had some games
Theres a place out here called Casey's Collectables. They have all kinds of old stuff. Including a whole section of video games. Lots of "collectable" ones. I was down there once and commented on how expensive their old NES games were. I saw the first Legend of Zelda for $40. I told the lady there I had a whole box of them at home. She seemed very interested in asking me if I wanted to sell them.
She said "If you dont wanna sell them what do you do with them". I said "Play them sometimes.", she said "Thats good!"

Re: I found a place, it had some games
I'm lucky to have a place in my town that's actually thriving due to lack of Gamestops in the area, and great location, right in between the Dollar General and the Kroger. They even have branched out into selling hobby games like D&D and Magic: The Gathering, and comics. They'll even special-order comics for you.

Re: I found a place, it had some games
Just do what I'm doing. Start an ebay shop. It's cheaper because you don't have to have an actual storefront, you can cheaply advertise to people who actually by your products by hanging out at forums, and anyone who searches for a game will most likely get a link to your shop.just gotta find the money and the time to make it work... and a good location.
I'm trying to lease out an old warehouse to hold all this crap. In just a year I've got like... 300 commodore tape decks, msx ROMS, NES cartridges, and a whole bunch of other old crap for less than a hundred bucks. I've still got 4 years of active service left and my store comes alive.
...you guys better be around to spend money.
