    random encounters on ocean terrain

How does this work if you cannot walk on the water? I thought maybe it applies to beach terrain, but when I tried it, it doesn't work.

If I remember correctly, one way to get the "ocean" battles to trigger is to walk up to where the land meets the water and get the red "don't walk" sign. The battles are triggered there, I believe.

I'm trying this as I type, but can't get it to trigger. I'll edit the post if I can figure it out.

I tried both playtest made and normal play mode and got nothing. Now I'm curious

do you get them to work for you pagerron? Let me know please.

I tried using the Dear Braveheart data and added a group to the ocean terrain and it still didn't work.

Curiously, there were none assigned to ocean in the data for the sample.... maybe it doesn't work?

You have to make sure that you use the water terrain to make the water...not just use the elevation. Even so, it's hard to get the ocean battles to trigger.

That makes sense. Most of my water has the land around it down to so it is smooth. I probably didn't even get to the water when I tried.

Thanks Obright. I'll try again sometime tonight hopefully.

From the famous post "Tricks to spice up your game", points 8 and 9. Maybe this is what it's for?

HOW MAKE AN UNDERWATER CAVE - by Libra in Red

Create a field that is at least 100+ units on the X-Axis. Decide where you want your dungeon to go, and create a solid field (like dirt or so, NOT water) and make the height approx. 45-60 units on the X-Axis, with enough of a slope to the rest of your field that you can have access to it. Set your field's water level to "Low."

Go to the layout option for your new field and place your dungeon(I used the deep cave, but I'm sure the ruins would work perfectly, or any other dungeon. I'd stear away from the fire or ice, unless you are using the ice in a snow field.) Anyways, lower or raise your dungeon until you are happy with the result.

Return to the feild option, and change the water level to average. On preview, you should be able to walk around the field except where you assigned the dungeon to go. If you did this right, you'll barely see the top of the dungeon above the water.

Now, depending on your story, to access the water, you'll have to create an event. I tired to do this on the field, but it wouldn't allow me to change it until I had a way to refresh the screen. I would do a story-teller or place the event in a town or dungeon.

In the event, make sure you have a property value event that changes the level of the water back to low. Once you do this, test it out in the playtest mode. You should be able to access the water-logged dungeon now.

to change the water level back, make another event, just make sure it's AFTER you leave the dungeon.

WALKING ON THE WATER'S EDGE - by JPS Innovations

In V-Mode with water level at "Normal"

              Water Forms:Z-Axis 78
              Unwalkable Shoreline:Z-Axis 80
              Walkable Land: Z-Axis 82

Wait, in #8 it says it's not water, but dirt. But how about #9?

I don't think it would work because you can't change the hight of water, just the land. You would be walking on really low dirt not the water.

                This is driving me crazy!!!

Re: random encounters on ocean terrain

In Shadow of the Towers there is one place, on the first map, where I got the beach battles (on the 'ocean' terrain) to work. You still have to run around on the edge of the water to get them to trigger though. It's on the narrow strip of beach on the southern part of the main island. Be careful though...the enemies there are best saved for when you're about level 5-6 in the game. If you want to check them out without playing, just use the debug menu to increase your party levels.
