    $$$$$$

Hi, I'm new, although I have been using the pavilion for info for quite awhile now.
It has really helped my out quite a bit. Anyway, I'm not sure where to post this as it applies to all rpg makers really.

Has anyone made any money from games they have created? I know Agetec offers a royalty free liscence for developers, but has anyone actually made any money using the software?

And if so, how much do they sell their games for?
    Thanx!

    Re: $$$$$$

People trade their games, they don't sell them.

Besides, you wouldn't get much for a 'game' that you make even if someone was stupid enough to pay anything for them.

      Re: $$$$$$

several people tried selling their games early in RPG Maker's life, but no one was successful with it. as a result, those games are now lost forever. no one bought them, they were never released free, and as a result no one archived them. they're gone now. the makers completely wasted their time.

Thanx. I was just curious if anyone actually tried.

Please allow me to clarify that I didnt ask out of any intentions to make money from the software.

Wanting to make money out of a game you've created doesn't make you look like a jerk (as per your reason for the edit). It makes you look like every other aspiring game maker on here. We've all thought about it. At least I have.

I was just saying that I think we'd all love to earn money by creating games, especially when game-making is what we enjoy doing with our time. It's alright to want to be paid for something you like (and are good at) is all I'm saying. Anyway, that's all I meant. End of my comments.

agetec probably knew that no one would buy an rpg maker game someone had developed so put that quip in there as extra marketing. it isnt like you could create a blockbuster with anything rpg maker has to offer, especially in todays rpg world. its much more rewarding to make a good rpg maker game and have tons of people play it for free then trying to sell it and have no one or just a few play it. not like id know, ive never completed anything worth downloading.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

Very true Karr. I don't have a max drive so the only one who will play my game will probably be my wife..... If I ever finish a game!

And you're probably right about the marketing also.

BTW. Why is there a goblin under my user name?

It signifies how much reputation you have. People give you reputation by clicking on the balance under your name, and choosing either positive or negative reputation, depenending on how they liked your post. The more good reputation you get the more goblins you get.

That is a good post Karr (and true). I know I've enjoyed all the free RPG Maker 2 and RPG Maker 3 games I've had the chance to check out here for sure. It really is cool to be part of this community.

This probably wouldn't be a big problem nowadays, but there was also always the chance that someone you sold your game to would copy it and submit it online somewhere. But still, you'd almost have to be a professional game developer for anybody to be willing to buy your game. And it's a bit of a hassle, anyway. You're more likely to sell a good RMXP game.
