The Secret Internet Lives of Pavilionites.

Believe it or not, I was posting on the Internet long before I came to the Pavilion. OK, maybe it wasn't THAT long, but I remember the first time I made a post on a discussion forum. That discussion forum was alt.games.final-fantasy(AGFF), and it is a newsgroup that is still around. I started posting there in early 1998 under the name "Funkidelic" and stayed there until 2001, and probably amassed AT LEAST 15,000 posts in that time. Since UseNet doesn't actually keep track of your posts in newsgroups (it would be virtually impossible since you don't use user accounts in newgroups) I will never know how many AGFF posts I made.

I was such a n00b, and I even found my first post as "Funkidelic":

    Funk's first AGFF post

After that it was a struggle to fit in. That was hard: these people were far more elitist than you guys. In fact, by the time I reached AGFF they were pretty much just flamers, and every post made was picked apart and scrutinized. The biggest loser there was a guy named "Neo Atma Weapon 3:16". He lived in his parent's basement and when he finally got the guts to post his pic he looked like a 300lb preacher in a white suit. That was great. Here is a thread featuring an attack on him, and then they all just attack each other:

    Neo Atma Attack

I pretty much became a troll like they all were. We just posted for attention, and then tried to verbally smash each other to pieces. When that got boring we invaded other newsgroups. I got my mom's account with our local ISP terminated for spamming the alt.games.grand-theft-auto newsgroup. I got in trouble for that, but we ended up getting a better ISP in the long run, so it was all good there. I toned down a bit after that and kept it mostly in AGFF.

Another strange aspect about AGFF was that everyone tried to make longer signatures than everyone else. Newsgroup are completely text, but there were some AGFFers that had signatures that were nearly a meg long. Here is my signature from AGFF:

Funk's AGFF sig (WARNING: vulgar language)

Ironically, we had a "Cook" at AGFF, too. His name was Gregory Cook, and he was attending Rice University while I posted there. So now I have a different Cook here, and I love him just as much.

After awhile more and more people left AGFF up until the time I stopped posting there around early 2001 when there was only around 10 regulars instead of 100-200. Then I came here and I've been here ever since. Who knows where I will go after this, but perhaps at that time I will make a post similar to this one at my new discussion forum. But I don't have any plans of leaving here any time soon.

You can find many of my posts at AGFF if you go to groups.google.com and search for "Funkidelic". My behavior there was disgraceful, but I was teenager, so it could have been worse.

agetec was my first actual message board use, but there's no archives of its days on the old wwwboard system.

Wow, message boards were harder to follow back then, I suppose.

I honestly can't remember what I did on the internet before the pav. I guess it was find walkthroughs for games and stuff. That and play other people's emulators.

No, Google really sucks at displaying newsgroups. If you use Outlook Express you can still configure it to post on newsgroups, and all of the messages are sorted and indented and very easy to follow and reply to. There are better apps out there for posting on newsgroup, though, including several that were designed simply for that purpose.

Dave googled RPGmaker and found this place. I signed up later, and didn't post for a long time.

Stay tuned for more: TALES OF INTEREST.

That's how it was for me. 'Cept I Yahooed it.

I just searched my name to see how far back the Internet remembers me. I found this.

Me and Magus used to write for our own entertainment site with a couple of friends, BigStick.com. I found the guestbook.

Before that we wrote for The Square Citadel. Before that, I was at the AOL chatroom at Nintendo.com.

              You're all productive and stuff.

I was a geek at a Xenogears fansite. And I have some Xenogears easter eggs at EEggs.com.

I basically never really posted at any other forums, except a few posts about questions on certain online rpgs. But for the most part, I really only been a part of an online community was when I googled my way to RPGMpavilion

Before RPGM, I was mainly in the major 3 online rpgs. Ultima Online, Everquest, and Asheron's Call. But mainly, I never did much else on the internet.

I used Yahoo! to find the Pavilion. I used to lurk briefly before joining in 2003 after RPGM2's release. In the past, I was at GameFAQs. My first post was about the "Arab" models in RPGM2.

                    BigStick.com.

If only that was a real dot-com.

I think my first message board was at a Space Ghost Coast to Coast fan-site. When I got RPG Maker, I found the Agetec Boards. I mostly lurked there for a few months until I followed a link on those boards to the Pavilion.

I was funny on the Agetec boards.

"yay! I'm gonna make a kickass site! we can all share are games and stuff! then we can get into a big gay orgy!"

ok, maybe that last part didn't happen, but I used to be the epitomy of optimism over there. Valk hated me.

Re: The Secret Internet Lives of Pavilionites.

I joined my first internet board at a Marvel Vs. Capcom fan site back in 1997. Actually, it was a guest book that a few other guys and me took over. Everyone in that book had a name from a Capcom fighting game, so I chose "TheHonorableRyu" (the "honorable" refering to his reserved playing style) as my moniker and the name has stuck ever since. For some mysterious reason, people would randomly write guestbook posts that trashed on "Jin," the maker of the site, and me and my fellows played as his self-styled "defenders" and spent our time trashing on everyone who posted negatively. But few of us had even actually ever talked to "Jin," and he hated what his guestbook had become and he eventually erased it.

Then I was at some crazy anime site called "Mew's Bubble." I don't know what I was thinking--probably I wanted to be a regular at a site populated by girls instead of college-aged blokes. Then I was at a Capcom fan humor site called "Sakura and Hsien-Ko's Backyard."

I joined the Pavilion March 29th, 2001 after I was scouring the Gamefaqs message boards for RPG Maker info, and I read a post by Alzar (the maker of Remote Control!!) hawking the Pavilion. I think I made my first post was in the wrong forum.

I used to post at the gamefaqs RPGM Board. One time we were invaded by wrestlers who
would hold wrestling matches and made up belts and ****. Somehow I managed to become the Commishner of the RPGM League and was responsible for setting up the matches and stuff.

                            It was very lame.

Edit: Oh man, that was a sweet kick ass dance.

The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

That reminds me of how I got me nickname.

I was at GameFAQs, staring at the RPGM2 board. I was hesitant at first, yet finally decided to join. The first name that popped in my head was "RPGProgrammer" (which, by the way, is both spelled and pronounced as one word). It felt versatile, neutral and maintained anonimity. So, I used it and stuck with it later.

My first post was in reply to the local a**, Devin Gulliver, whom was eventually banned, commenting on his sarcasm regarding the RPGM2 release date.
