    Superman: Doomsday DVD

    http://www.warnervideo.com/supermandoomsdaydvd/

What are people's thoughts on this? I'm thinking about picking it up because I love me some Superman, but I'm questionable about how good it's going to be. If Singer doesn't get to this I'm going to be ******.
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Holy cow, it's Bruce Timm? I thought they adressed Doomsday already in Justice League. Quite awesomely at that. Are they doing it for real now??

      I'm certainly optimistic.

I don't know. I opted for the novelization instead of the comics. I'm just worried that they're going to do it all kiddie like JLA where Batman is a detective and Superman is a boyscout.

He's only produced it and did the usual character design stuff.

It's a completely different voice cast and its own separate stand-alone thing. It has nothing to do with the established DC animated storyline.

Same with the next DC direct-to-DVD movie, The New Frontier. Kyle MacLachlan plays Superman in that.

          That's right.

          Kyle ****ing MacLachlan.

Death of Superman was stupid therefore Superman Doomsday is stupidity in motion.

A few things. Mainly their attempt at making Doomsday mysterious didn't work for me because they failed to hint at any deeper layers for me to wonder about. He was just a big thing for Superman to fight. Which was my main issue with it, Superman litterally just fought to death. No kryptonite, no red sun, it was even broad daylight where Superman should able to recharge. He just fought to the point of fatal exhaustion which succeeds as the emotional heroic moment it was meant to be but completely ignored everything established about his invulnerabilities and weaknesses. The whole thing was just a tear-jerker story but they didn't put enough substance in it to support that. They hit all the bullet points but made some obtuse choices that kept them from having full impact. It could've been as great as it was meant to be if it was more polished which for me makes it even stupider than something that's just crap to begin with.

Well like I said I didn't read the comics but to me, having Superman exhaust himself so completely to defeat Doomsday was the best way to kill him off. Using Kryptonite or some other gimmick to do it would have just been lazy.

I don't even know why we're friends Chuck.

I just don't like it when stories contradict or ignore established rules. Continuity isn't that hard to pull off it just takes more effort. Like I said I completely understand why they had him fighting to exhaustion but they should've at least acknowledged that up until now that was supposedly impossible. Because to me it was like having Spider-Man wait for an elevator. I can't help but want to tap the writer on the shoulder and say "You know he can crawl up walls, right?" [The elevator analogy presupposes it is not a storyline where Peter Parker (TM) has lost his powers.]
