This is really stressing me out and making me MAD

I recently recieved a new computer for my birthday. Way faster and more powerful than the one I have been using for years. Yay! So, I set it all up and it works great. Now all I need to do is transfer the important files from my two old (small) HDs to my new huge one in my new computer.

I hook up one of them as a slave in my new computer, and everything works fine. I transfer all the stuff I need, which wasn't much because this HD just had games and stuff that I would have to reinstall anyway. Now, on to the next one that had a majority of my most important files.

I hook it up as a slave just like the other one.

Computer: What is this? It is unknown hardware! I cannot detect it! *Fizzle*

I go "what the heck?" Everthing is connected and set up correctly (as far as I can tell) but it wont detect the hard drive. I try a few more times, and I can finally access it through My Computer(BIOS still does not detect it on startup). But it wont let me into my username ("E: \Documents and Settings\[username] is not accessable. Access is denied.") so I can't get any of the files.

I take it out and go back to my old computer, and set up the two hard drives like they were before. Wee.

*Power on* Blank monitor screen. Everything is connected.. Computer makes normal startup noises.. but no picture. WTH.
*Disconnectes slave (important HD) and powers on* Cannot detect Slave 1. F1 to continue. *Windows starts up* Okay then, that works fine.

*Uses important HD as master* Cannot detect Slave 1. F1 to continue.

(Some file name) is missing. Please restart.

I've been trying to figure this out for days. I can't access my important HD files because it doesn't allow access from another HD (login requred?) but I can access "All Users" and things in the HD directory (E: ). I can't get it to work like it did before, or use it as a primary like I used it before I got the second (less important) HD. This is extrmely frustrating. If I don't get this fixed soon, I'm probably going to smash things with a hammer, then stomp them, and throw them out the window.

Be sure to use a jackhammer.

Did you reinstall windows? You might have to go in as the computer administrator for those files and all that unfun stuff.

No, I didn't reinstall windows, install anything else, or change any hardware. I am the system administrator for that computer, so I should have access to everything.

I've been messing with it some more, and I have the old two hard drives in the old computer working again. I'm going to delete a bunch of stuff from the less improtant HD and move all of my important files over, then set my less important HD with the important files as a slave in my new computer, then move the files into my new HD. *Wipes sweat from brow*

if I were you, back when the hard drives were in seperate computers I would have just used AIM or any file transfer software to send files to the other. it would take longer, but you'd save yourself the headache.

You could always use an external HDD to make backups to transfer to your other computer, or use a Host-to-Host cable.

I've never had a big problem with setting up slaves, but I'd make sure the jumpers are set right. The position they need to be in differs between brands.
