    Another Ow

While I was at work tonight, I was grabbing a pallet so I could pile down more cartons on it and when I dropped it I had an industrial pallet staple snag my finger underneath the pallet, it went in at my first joint and went down nearly puncturing out of the tip of the finger, fortunately the pallet staples wasnt in the pallet far and it snapped off, so I ended up pulling about 1" of pallet staple out of my finger. Im suppose to be going to get a tetanus shot today since I havent had one in 12 years.

So has anyone else here suffered a sudden injury that you weren't expecting to happen? Im not talking about speeding and wrecking and breaking some bones, Im talking about something that wasnt in your power to control

No, aside from when I jumped over a sag in a barbed wire fence and one of the barbs caught my leg and threw me down on the ground. Wasn't really any blood (at first), just the torn skin and this strange layer of pale flesh beneath it.

      No, I'm a competent employee.

I know what the pale flesh looks like, I fell off my bike when I was 9 and landed on my elbow, took quite a bit of skin away, but didnt bleed for like 5 minutes, just mushy meat

Then the blood came....lots of it

I cut the tip of my thumb off at work slicing mushrooms. It bled alot. I went pale and went into a bit of shock. Ive gotten tons of cuts and stuff all my life. I got my appendix taken out when I was like 8.

But when you clearly see a chunk of you sitting next to your hand that should still be attached to you, your brain just goes "NOT GOOD. DEAR GOD! AHHHHHHH!". Its around 6 months later now, and I can still see the scar, and its doesnt quite look the same. Still have no feeling in the spot too. Its also all hard with scar tissue. It wasnt a big enough piece to be able to reattach, or sew back on, so I just had to bandage it and let it grow back. YAY.

For the love of god, dont let the tight wrapped cloth they put around your wounds to heal up in the blood. Docter put neosporin on it, and wrapped it up tight telling me to not take the cloth off for about 3 days. 3 Days later its ****ing healed to my tumb with crusty blood and scabs. It had to come off.

Well when I broke my leg it was sudden. And it wasn't in my power to crontrol. How it happened is so lame, but out of my control. I was turning and a stick flew up and hit my dirtbikes chain. It happened to be a little loose, and off it went. I lost my balance having the bike came to a sudden stop. the bike fell and I ( DUMBEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE ) put my leg out to stop it. Hoping I'd get my balance. Well that move put my on crutches for six weeks. the Handle bar landed on my knee. It was pushing down on my knee which was braced agianst the ground. I did my best to push it up but my other leg was in an awkard posistion which made it impossible to lift more then a few inches. I tried to get out. The pain at one point be came unbareble, until I just felt like I couldn't feel my leg anymore and then I fell completely to the ground. Now this matter of events happened in about ten seconds. I managed to get the bike up without putting any weight on it. I had to shift with my hand since i couldn't bend my knee to shift without it hurting greatly. After when I got home. luckly someone helped me, walk in and they said " Oh you jsut hurt it ". I slept all four hours straight on the couch. Finally they said "ok" lets go to the hospital. By the time I got out there I was really pale. So I didn't get crutches that night but I got them the next night.

I got a hairline fracture in my left tibia from landing awkwardly on a friend's foot during recess football in sixth grade. Had to wear an aircast for six weeks, and I even competed in a tri-county spelling with the damn thing on. I felt like such a hoser with that thing.

I also broke all the way my right tibia playing dodgeball in eighth grade. Yes, that's right, DODGEBALL. I jumped out of the way (MAKE WAY FOR THE FAT GUY) and landed on my leg all wrong. Had to wear a real cast for three months and crutch around for longer thanks to this idiocity.

My friend's mom accidentally slammed the door of her car's trunk down on my hand. It was kinda funny, because it hurt so much that I couldn't make a sound, so they kept walking away from the car without noticing me. I just kept pointing at my smashed hand with my other hand while looking unhappy.

I sliced open the side of my middle finger on my left hand with a box-cutter while at work. It went fairly deep and the same thing happened to me...went pale, walked to the breakroom, got a little dizzy and had to sit down for a couple minutes. I probably should have gotten stitches for it, but it healed up alright.

Also, I've broken my right forearm twice (in the same place), the second time it was still very brittle from healing from the first break, and it bent in the shape of a "U"...had one of those, "Things are wrong!" brain reactions, but I never went into shock like I did with a moderate cut on my finger, go figure. I had to get it straightened, which was far, far worse than either of the breaks.

                      Re: Another Ow

Oh man, reading those entries made me feel nausous, let's see if I can add to that....

The most recent incident was when I was tring to cut a watermelon. I thought I was smart enough to make one edge flat so the damn thing wouldn't roll everywhere, but I approached it in a retarded way....

Most of you would think to stand the watermelon up on its end and cut in a downward motion, but I was dumb enough to leave it on its side and try to slice the top part of it off with the knife in my right hand, cutting towards my left hand. Needless to say, the knife slipped through faster than I thought and sliced into my thumb. Luckily, my nail prevented the blade from going into the bone, but it was an awkward place to try and fit a band-aid.

I ran into the bathroom and called out to Karr for him to turn on the tap. He saw the blood in the sink and started freaking. I was like, "Don't worry, it doesn't hurt." but after running it under cold water, I was able to feel my pulse, and it throbbed.

Other than that, the only other incident that was close to being a "freak accident" was when I was 7- I was dropped off at elementary school by the bus, and it left to make its second trip. It was raining, so we were all indoors. I was ostracized in a group called "The Giggle Girls" and while laughing with a school chum, I tripped on my shoe lace, fell forward, and smacked my skull on the corner of a book case.

I sobbed into my jacket, and the students crowded around me (the teachers were all in the staff room, the senior students supervised). I remember looking up, and hearing another 7 year old go "Holy crap" and I had never heard anyone under the age of 30 swear before, so that is when I panicked.

Turns out I JUST missed taking out my eye but the socket had swelled up and sealed my eye.

                      GODDAM SHOELACES!

I think she's saying that the kid didn't really say crap. But if that's the case it makes no sense not to just say ****.

Ooh. Yeah. I wasn't allowed to say "this sucks" or "that bites" or "crap" or "darnit" because they were considered curses in my Christian school.

EDIT: Or "freaking" like "that freaking hurt"
