    SS Legends Updates

This is where I'll post the progress I'm making with my game series, SS Legends.

The first two have already been posted of course, and the third one should be ready by around late June or early July.

Almost all of the dungeons will be original creations in SSL III instead of using the pre made ones. Also, the game will have a lot more side quests and mini games than the previous installments.

The main quest for SSL III is finished. All that's left are the side quests which you will have to complete to get an S ranking at the end of the game. Still no custom battle system though. I'm thinking of having a title screen for this game.

Also, the first SS Legends has now been downloaded by over 100 people at the Pavilion. Thanks to everyone who bothered to download it. I hope it provided you with at least a little enjoyment.

      Re: SS Legends Updates

I played the first SS Legends and got to the final boss but he kills my party in two rounds every time. There must be a way to weeken him but he has the last waraxe Stone (or whatever they are called). I also have 4 of the 5 Waraxe (?) gems and can't find the last one. I beat all three coin guys but the items they give don't seem to help. I'm really at a lost at how to finish this game.

Normally I would be spending time at this point leveling up but for some reason I need a million XP to go up one level. Unless one level is going to make a big difference, I don't what to spend hours leveling up if there is an easier way. Please help.

Spoilers for those who have not reached the end of SS Legends 1

First of all, stock up on as many Fresh Herbs, Divine Waters, and Angel Feathers as possible Then make sure you have Roarus in front, followed by SS, and then Scorch. This way Roarus will take the brunt of Omega's attacks, so make sure you increase his hp as much as possible through equipment. Roarus should concentrate on using items, mainly Divine Waters when SS and Scorch are low on mp, and Angel Feathers on any dead party members. SS should cast Final Decision (the holy spell he gets at level 35) each turn since it is the only attack that will significantly hurt Omega. Finally Scorch should focus only on casting Mega Cure and replenishing mp. Omega has only 5000hp so he should fall after about 9 or 10 Final Decisions.

On the second part of the battle, just use SS's normal attack to kill him.

The final waraxe gem is in the Lumbry Mines on one of the raised walk ways in the bottom left hand corner.

Hope that helps and good luck.

Thanks for the info. I also found that using Lost Herb every round whether I was hurt or not helped to keep my party alive throughout the battle.

Thanks for letting me know where the last Waraxe gem is. I don't know how much it will help, but at least I'll get a 100% finished game.

[Edit] I looked for the Waraxe gem and realized I already had that one.

          Spoiler

I have the one from the first town, the lava town, the ice area (outside, near the water), and the mine. I have gem 1,2,3, and 4 but if my 4 was actually the last one, I have no idea where the other one could be. Could you give me a hint of where it might be? I would like to try to find it myself, so a general location to search would be fine.

Spoilers. How to find the Final Waraxe Gem!

The fifth and final gem is also in the mines but it is not visible on the screen.
It is as far left as you can go in the mines, you'll have to go on the raised sections of the maze or the gray rocky sections. With the camera in it's default position, go south while on top of the left most wall, when you come to the second highest step, press triangle or examine and you will enter into a battle for the final Waraxe Gem.

Once you claim it you will have done everything there is to do in SS Legends.

              Re: SS Legends Updates

Now that I've finished SS Legend, it's time to give a review:

Story: Overall the story was original; however, the game was more of a fetch quest then anything. The player has to travel around the world finding Waraxe Crystals in order to defeat the villian at the end. Two other characters join the quest along the way for their own reasons. Other characters appear that try to stop them but there isn't a lot of character development. Enemies are mostly just there to get in your way.

              Score: 6/10

Graphics: Only default maps and dungeons were used throughout the whole game. The Preset town is used for every town in the game. Only the placement of buildings and objects were changed. In many places objects were set up as walls to prevent the player from moving into areas they weren't supose to go. It would have looked a lot better it the designer had just altered the maps instead.

There were no visual effects (VFX) outside of battle and no buildings could be entered. NPCs stood in doorways to prevent entry.

There were four areas in the game: A forested area, a lava field, a snow field, and a rainbow(!) field. Moving between each area followed a linear path, but about the middle of the game a man appears who can warp you to any town or castle you have visited before. It you want to find all the secrets it is good that there is a way to tavel to previous areas quickly.

              Score: 5/10

Battle System: The Default Battle System is used, but unlike other people who have used the DBS, the game was designed to make battles challenging without making them too hard. Magic is actually useful and in some cases necessary to survive. New spells were made along with some default ones. None of the VFX were partitually original but they served their purpose.

Some of the later enemies are brutal with special attacks that can take away half your parties HPs in a single blow. Stock up on healing items. They are cheap and there is not much else to spend your money on. One of the most useful items, Lost Herb, can only be found on enemies, so you need to fight random encounters in order to stock up on these.

              Score: 7/10

Function: You can only buy a single item from merchants. I don't know why the merchant scripts weren't used, but since there is only four things to buy (herb, fresh herb, angel feather, and divine water) this method works fine. You can also spend your money on a night at the inn (only 10 gold, even at the end of the game). The priest will cure you for free and allows you to save your game (same as the preset priest).

There were no crashs or gliches in the game, which is hardly surprising since only preset stuff was used. This also means there was nothing original in the game either. No mini games. No time/ weather effects. Even magical portals were devoid of magical effects.

              Score: 6/10

Overall: I enjoyed playing this game. There wasn't much of a story, but the battles were very challenging - especially the bonus battles. It was very easy to die which lead to the one thing I did hate and it was that when you died you were kicked out of the game. It is very annoying in a game were death can come all too often to have to reload the game every time you die.

I stocked up on lots of healing early on and built up my levels so that I could avoid death as much as possible; however, at a certain level (SS 40, Scorch 32, Roared 35) you can't go up any further. Not only did that make battles later on almost pointless (and considering the challenge level is was often better to run away), but it also made Scorch a pretty useless character. I don't know why he was limed to level 32. He gets the weakest spells and does the least damage with a weapon and yet he also has the lowest max level. If it wasn't for his healing ability and ability to suck MP from enemies, there wouldn't be much point in having him at all.

Because the story and maps were linear, it was pretty hard to get lost. Most of the bonus areas were not hard to find. In fact, the first bonus battle is so easy to find you will find it long before you are ready to fight it. You may even forget it was there by the time you are ready for it.

The last Waraxe gem however is impossible to find so I'll give you a hint. When you see a blue crystal disappear, that is a hint that the last gem is in the area. Prepare for battle and search (press /\) around.

              Score: 7/10

SSL III is finally complete. I'll probably post it this weekend after I finish playing through it once more to eliminate any possible glitches. I'm planning on ending the series with this one so I can work on some other ideas of mine on RPG Maker 3 when it comes out.

Also, thanks for your very detailed review of the first SSL Dungeon Warden. It's always nice to hear feedback.

SSL III is finally up! If you liked the first two then you'll love this one. Hell, even if you hated the first two you still might like this one.

Anyways, this series is done for now, I'm going to devote my energies to working on my ideas for RPG Maker 3 games.
