    September 11th

Can't believe it has been 6 years. My question for you pavillionites is...

Where were you when you first found out about the towers? What was your reaction?

I was 15, and being in B.C, I was 3 hours behind from New York. I remember waking up to the ringing phone at 7am. My mom answered, and it went like this....

"Hey Margarita, good morning. What's u........ What? .... Slow down........ What? ....PLANES? Oh My God...... Where?"

I was in such a haze. I turned on my radio, and there was no music. Just a strange voice. I couldn't believe how much I relied on music for comfort. I started getting ready for school, not thinking much of a plane hitting a building. It wasn't until I heard that a building had collasped did I run downstairs......

Every channel had it on by now. There was a huge knot in my stomach. As I sat there, humbled, I watched live as the 2nd tower went down. I started tearing up. I blinked and realized that I had to get to school.

That building had never been so silent at 8:30 in the morning. The PA announcements were done by the principal, and by second period, everyone in the building was watching the news. That's all we did- watch CNN loop the story over and over. I felt sick, the kind of sick you feel on your first sleep over and you realize how scared you are of the unfamiliar surroundings. The thousands of silent teenagers will do that to you.

I was very ignorant of the whole situation for months. I had never even heard of a "terrorist" before that dreadul day. In fact, it wasn't even until a year later, as I watched my favourite Simspon's episode on VHS when the family goes to New York, did I realize those towers were already a part of pop culture.

And yeah, that's where I was on September 11.

Ironically I was leaving my US History class and heading home when I heard about it on the radio.

I had just come home from work, was about to play a game before bed (worked night shift), and checked the news for the weather. saw that the first plane had hit. I thought it was just a passenger plane accident. tried waking my mom up. she didnt get up. second plane hit. this time made my mom get up. we watched the news until about 2 PM, when I finally had to get to bed.

went in to work that night, and a co-worker stacked cereal boxes in the middle of the floor and threw a toy plane into them.

        Re: September 11th

I was in the car heading to school, and my mother calmly informed me that the radio had said you-know-what. I had never heard of the existence of the world trade center until, ironically enough, it no longer existed.

Of course, I was less then shocked at the news due to my blissful ignorance.

I'll one up you cow. I was in US History class doing a project on famous terrorist attacks. One of them was even the parking lot bomb that failed in the WTC.

Did I mention I was heading home by flying a plane?

I was in my senior year, in my first class, ceramics. Teacher had the TV in the room, and I was watching the whole thing from about 8 AM pacific to about 9 I think.

It was just hard to believe something like that happened, it didn't even seem real to me. But what bothered me was that some of the other students didn't even seem to care at first they were at their desks like nothing was going on.

                    Re: September 11th

Being at a private elementary school at the time (I was 14 six years ago) and in a highly sheltered environment, I didn't really know what was going on specifically until after I arrived home and watched the news with my two elder sisters.

At school, however, we knew something had happened because some of our classmates were pulled out of class by their parents, and the faculty had an emergency meeting and left us in the hands of the librarian who only told us that she wasn't allowed to talk about it, but, according to her, "it's nothing serious to concern you all."

So I was quite curious upon arriving home to learn about what could possibly have transpired in those early hours of the morning. At the time though, I wasn't informed enough to really understand the full meaning behind the news coverage. I certainly had no understanding that such a tragedy could result in a war. But as things unfolded, I took a more active interest in what was going on in the world.

Not to sound trite, but the whole event probably helped me see beyond my own environment. Thinking back on it now, it was probably a much more significant catalyst in my life than I've ever given it credit for.

I woke up and turn on the news and the first plane had just hit and noone knew what was going on. Everyone thought it was a horrible accident. I remember watching and there was a camera still filming while they were waiting for information on what had happened and then the second plane hit. I remember how, just in that minute, everyone knew it wasnt an accident.

                            Re: September 11th

I was walking to the bathroom during second period in 8th grade. the principal came on the school loudspeaker and said that a group of people had flown a plane into one of the World Trade Center towers. I didn't really think anything of it. when I got back to class, the news was on and our teacher was in the room next to ours, talking to another teacher.
my dad tried to come get my sister and I from school but they weren't letting anyone we leave. we just sat in class all day and watched the news.
I remember being morbidly unaffected by it all and really scared that I wasn't sad about the whole thing.

I was in 10th grade in a writing class. Then, an announcement came for us to go to channel 8, and...bada bing, bada boom. We had an assembly Friday, where everyone cried for over 4 hours.
