    PS1/PS2 Backward Compatibility Search Engine

    Check it out.

All you have to do is type in a specific PS1 or PS2 game, and the search engine will check its compatibility status when you play it on the PS3. I just ran into this tonight, and it's been extraordinarily helpful. In that sense, I can find out which PS1/PS2 games work on PS3 and which do not.

yes, this is especially a great resource for everyone who buys an 80GB PS3 and want to know just how badly all their favorite games will play. hope no RPGM2 users buy an 80GB system. they am be screwed!

I find it somehow surprising that the RPGM series are even recognized.

I've had a hard time finding anything that isn't playable. But a lot of the games have issues.

This is why I still have my PS2 hooked up.

Yeah seriously, it's not like you're throwing out your ps2 when you get a ps3.

Well, I have the 60GB. The only reason I threw out my PS2 was because my girlfriend tripped onto and broke it into pieces.

Edit: And whatever. The only PS2 game I have that isn't compatible is Captain Tsubasa, because it's an import.

So far, all the games I have work well. Only two or three of them have minor issues. But I still have my PS2 around just in case.

There are a couple on that list that state you can't use the PS2 HDD feature for games that allow it, but recently, I downloaded a patch for my PS3 that offers HDD functionality for those PS2 games.

Wouldn't plugging in the PS2 hard drive solve the problem, since it's probably just looking for that HD, or is it incompatible with the PS3?

It's probably more about the file system / format / organization. You could still use any HD in the PS2 as long as you formatted it correctly.

There's a patch you can download to your PS3 HD that allows you to use the functionalities of the PS2 HDD for PS2 games that make use of it. Check it out at the PlayStation store, and give it a download. Don't worry--it's free.
