    Humor me, please.

Alright, I'm just an amateur, but I've been developing this story for some time now and I'm about to get to work on it.

I don't have an official name yet, but here's what I can say so far:

The main character is Zail, a knight for the empire of Asgart. You begin the game by going on missions for the Emperor to settle the rebellion rising elsewhere in the world. But soon the Emperor is assassinated, and Zail is blamed!

You follow Zail as he runs from an empire out to kill him and fight to clear his name and defeat the real killer.

I'm planning on the game including:
    -Many playable characters
-An epic, always changing war-torn world
-A dynamic plotline with many twists that will leave you wondering what will happen next
-No random battles; I'm trying to make it all scripted battles
-Unique boss battles that will require excellent strategy
-Each character has their own backstory, but try not to get too attatched to them!

Although this is my first official game, I believe it has the potential to be a great, fun game. Look forward to updates and please tell me what you think!

I'm wondering which RPG Maker this is for?

Sounds pretty cool, but which maker is this for?

Also, there's very little difference between random battles and scripted battles (other than the overwhelming data size difference...scripted battles will take WAY more room). The important thing is to make the battles as interesting as possible. Well, another good thing about scripted battles is that they can happen only once, or every time you touch/button the event that contains them. You can also reset all of them in an area at one time to be fought again, and have a second, harder battle the second time.

Ok...there are a LOT of differences between random and scripted battles. The scripted battles will take much more data, but you can also do a lot more with them. On the other hand, there are things you can do with random battles that you can't so with scripted ones....mainly saving data, and RANDOM ENEMY DROPS, which offer many game dynamics. If you're using RM3, that's no small thing. There's practically NO randomness otherwise.

All of that aside, the most important thing is still to make the battles as interesting as possible.

Anyway, didn't mean to rant. Welcome to the Pavilion, and keep developing your game!

        Thanks!

And I am currently working on it for RPG Maker 3.

I may or may not do scripted battles; I'm still not entirely sure.

Sounds like an interesting premice. You should be okay with random battles if you keep them at the lowest setting and make your enemy parties interesting and distinctive enough.

Bit of an update and some character information.

-The main character's name is not Zail, it's actually Arhde. My whoops.
-I've got the basic storyline written out, a few of the characters created, and many items and enemies ready. So, I've still got quite a bit of work to do.

Alright, now for a bit of background info:

-ARHDE: The 'main' character. You begin him as a knight for the empire of Asgart.

-ZAIL: Arhde's childhood friend, who also works as a mercenary of sorts for the Emperor.

-BELMONT: The female Captain of the Royal Knights. Another close friend of Arhde's and his mentor.

-LIA: Haven't quite worked out all the details, but she's the leader of a group of people rebelling against the Empire.

-(Unnamed): A rebellion member from the same faction as Lia.

-ENVY: Ooh, mystery character! Not going to reveal much about her except that she is one of the main antagonists.

Um, that's it for now. Looks forward to further updates.

Have you ever played Castlevania? If not, then you've somehow thought of a seemingly original name that is actually the last name of the hero of just about every game in the series.

                Re: Humor me, please.

Yes, I've played Castlevania, and it took me a while to realize after her creation that the name was actually from the game.

Now, I don't mean to steal names from other games, but while making the characters I just wrote down that first name that came to mind. I may end up changing it so some people won't flame me for unoriginality.

This particular character, actually, was originally intended to be male. However, I decided to switch Belmont to a female for some balance. Because of this change, the name may sound a bit masculine for what I have intended for her, so the name will be subject to change.

Well, Belmont is a real surname, people out there do indeed have it. It's not exactly like Konami made it up or anything; however, most everyone who's ever played a game will be reminded of Castlevania. If you think going with that name would get you flak for using it, then by all means change it.

Also change the name if Konami somehow copyrighted it.

My only gripe thus far is the spelling of the hero's name. Arhde sounds like someone spelling a word sideways. Switching the H and the R to make it Ahrde might be less of an eyesore of a name, but that's just my deal.

                    Re: Humor me, please.

Sounds like it has potential. The only question I have is why is there a rebellion?

And I agree with Riotsword. I have no idea how to pronounce Arhde. That could be bad because it's all text. No voice overs to settle the question.

                      Re: Humor me, please.

Thanks for the input. It helps a ton, really! I've had some issues with the names lately, so I think any comments could really help.

Like I said, names are subject to change, those two especially.

'Arhde' (it's pronounced ARD-ay) was actually the name of a character a friend of mine has on WoW. I couldn't think of a name for the protagonist, so I just picked that name on a whim.

Lastly, to answer Lausen's question without giving too much away:

The people are rebelling mainly for the reason that they believe that the Empire is being run poorly. Asgart Empire is divided into 8 city-states. The lead city-state, also named Asgart, is forced to provide supplies to the rest of the Empire, which they are unable of doing. Asgart, to cover up their inability to provide for the rest of the Empire, is blaming all the supply shortages, among other things, on their newest and smallest city-state, Korahl (kor-ALL). Thus, most of the rebellion is being orchestrated from Korahl.

I have been really busy lately, so I haven't been able to update the game much, but currently I'm working on the storytellers and fixing a few holes in the plot.

Oh, Gods, I haven't even considered a sequel. But thanks for the compliment!

Umm, let's see...I have all the characters made, and most of the beginning and ending storytellers finished. Working on some balancing and the items.

I recently got a god idea for that last boss battle, I'm going to see how it works out tonight. All I say now is: look forward to a very challenging and thought-provoking boss battle (as opposed to many final bosses >_>)

Erm...it's not a military game, per se >_>

Anyways, I'm making some progress. Thus far, it looks like the biggest problem I'll be facing is the 100 NPC limit, due to the fact that there are 8 city-states. I'll seriously have to limit the number of people in each city; and more importantly I'll need to find a reason for the lack of people. Oh, well.

I'm working more on the storyline and putting together the missions you'll do during the game. Expect more updates soon. ^^
