What are your thoughts on Ron Paul?

Ron Paul just won the September 5th republican debate on Fox.
    A summary: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8BB3NrSpRGE

Obviously the results of that debate poll may not be representative of actual election voting, but what are your thoughts on Dr. Paul? Do you agree with his stances on whatever issues you care most about? Where do you see him going?

Edit: This is posted later in the topic, but here's an excellent discussion with Ron Paul, where he states his views on pretty much any issue you could be interested in. His responses will make you think about the role of government today. I seriously urge EVERYONE to watch this video, regardless of your opinion (or lack of opinion) on politics.

If anything, he's great for watching the other guys twist in the wind.

He's my favorite in either of the parties if only because he doesn't speak in complete generalities.

I'm really hoping Romney gets the nomination, though.

There's a site that's supposed to be supporting him at YTMND. It's lame.

I haven't really been paying attention to the Republican side of the campaign so I only have this semi-contextual clip to go with, but he seems like he's actually got new ideas that might actually work. I really like his idea of a foreign policy minding our own business. I'm not sure how well it would work out but it's at least worth discussing. Some of the other stuff is a bit more radical but also worth discussion.

Sadly, I think he's going to go down the road of Dean where he's ridiculed in the media until he's unelectable. That first moderator was ridiculously undermining. If he'd tone it down a bit maybe but he comes off as a bit of a joke. He's the Republican version of Kucinich. If the public actually elected the president then maybe he'd have a chance but there's just no way. Even if he did win he'd be blocked by a bitter Congress every step of the way.

But man, I kinda think this guy is even better than Obama.

I think a Paul/Kucinich bipartisan ticket would be phat as hell.

More realistically, Richardson or Obama. Richardson has the best renewable energy/environment plan proposed of the democrats(besides Kucinich), which isn't saying much. I don't want Klinton, period...

                >From what I've seen of Ron Paul, he's basically like..."Well, I'm the only Republican candidate who is totally different from the other Republican candidates, so vote for me." During the debate the other day, he was saying that he hopes that Fred Thompson does enter the race because that will further dilute the votes for the other candidates giving Ron Paul a better chance to win. Reminds me of Green Party logic. I don't know. He just rubs me the wrong way.

                >As far as Republican candidates go, I like Romney.

                >If a Democratic candidate gets in, I would much rather have Obama than Clinton.

                >Anyway, it should be interesting to see what transpires in the following months.

I haven't been following the issues much, but anyone who can make Fox News look like glaringly biased Republicans gets my vote.

Ugh! That video about trees gets to me every time. I wish I could personally walk about the Fox headquarters and give most of its employees a smack across the face.

Do they even mention that it's the cutting down of trees that releases their stored CO2 into the atmosphere? That's why Indonesia is the third highest carbon emitting country, due to all of the deforestation that goes on, particularly to meet China's lumber demand.

The media at large, that's what grinds my gears.

edit: Oh, and to be on topic: since I'm neither a registered Republican nor Democrat, I don't closely follow the nominations and in-party campaigns, since I can't really do anything about them either way. Probably not the most responsible outlook as a democratic citizen, but meh.

My Dad and my step Mother are essentially neo republicans, and he was talking to me yesterday saying: "That guy you like? He's a ****in' whacko."

I hadn't watched the debate, so I figured maybe he did something weird.

Though watching these clips, I fail to see what's so ****in' whacko.

I'm going to vote for him in the Primary and, frankly, all of the other republican candidates are a joke in my opinion.

I like his foreign policy stance; his fiscal conservatism (if you look at his voting record he has voted against appropriation bills time after time) and his ideas about the role of government and getting rid of the entitlements systems we currently have running. I like that he's questioning fundamental assumptions about how things should be done, as apposed to advocating "business as usual."

There are a number of interesting videos out there where you can get more insights into his specific stances on issues. Google has an interesting hour long interview with him that you can find on youtube.

I tend to disagree with him policy-wise. But he's the only candidate from any party, that I've heard, that sounds earnest. When I listen to him, it doesn't sound like bull**** that's been polled and focus-grouped and massaged until it retains no meaning.
