    I have to work on Labor Day. There's something ironic about that.

    You really would have thought that exiting the retail world would allow me to stop working on holidays. Alas, the newspaper business is messed up in its own unique way. It could be argued that yesterday was my Labor Day, since I DID get it off, but it still sucks knowing that I have to leave for work in about 10 minutes.

    At least since I shifted to the copy desk I no longer get off at midnight.

    Anyone else toiling on this day dedicated to the working stiff?

        When I had a car, I loved working on holidays such as these. At my current job, you get 7 hours of holiday pay for Labor Day, plus, if you actually work that day, you get time and a half. So if I would have worked 8 hours on Labor Day, I would have gotten paid for 19 hours. I LOVE working holidays. Unfortunately, I can rarely do that anymore, because the buses don't run on holidays, and I don't have a car.

                Thats the one thing that sucks about being a cook. On all the holidays everybody wants to go out to eat, so we have to keep working and cook for them. I usualy end up working through all the holidays.

                We get today off though since its going back to school week and the boss figure not enough people will come in, so he closed up for the day. YAY!

                  I worked 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM today. Most of it was time and a half, not because of the holiday, though.

                  For the forseeable future I'll probably be getting an average of 10 hours of overtime every week. That is until we manage to hire some more people.

                    i worked today. 7am to 3pm. time and a half though, so i'm not complaining.

                    the worst was when i worked for hollywood video, back in the day. we were open 365, even on christmas. what really ****** me off was that there were enough people renting movies on christmas day to perfectly justify staying open that day every year.

                    oddly enough, all of those people who rented movies made the same comment "i can't believe you're working christmas day! you should have the day off!" and proceeded to give the horrendous company $8.56 worth of reason to make me work next year.

                      I had to work Friday - Monday this weekend... around 25 hours total.

                      But I made ~$500 in tips, so overall it was worth it. But I neglected to do any homework. Not cool. I got home today at 5 and passed out for 5 hours because I was so exhausted and now I've got to do a **** ton of reading = not fun.

                        A few years ago when I was working at a Regal Cinemas I had to work on Labor Day, I think it was 11am to 6pm. And yeah, that ****** the hell out of me, just 'cuz it was Labor Day.

                          I worked 8 pm to close. Why the hell did I even bothering going to work today? My schedule is like that all this week. I'm really ****ing ****ed off! I need more hours and they keep taking them away. I'm going to have a very frustrated talk with them tommorrow!
