    The map editor

Where do I start!!! lol. The stupid map editor is making me want to blow up!!! lol, I have almost everything down but the graphical stuff. Can anyone make a mini-tutorial on how to do stuff in the map editor? The only thing I figured out how to do is create a circle of land :P What else can I do?

    Re: The map editor

even with the instruction manual and knowing what buttons/button combinations do what, it still takes a little getting used to, i know. just mess around with it until you get comfortable.

tips.. hmm. first, hold square and press R1 to access texture mode or R2 to access building mode. in texture mode, press X to open your option of textures to place (any of which can be changed from the Map Editor, Custom tab, Texture) and after selecting your texture, you can hold SQUARE and then press UP or DOWN on the d-pad to increase/decrease transparency and LEFT or RIGHT, the edging. this lets you blend them together or makes the textures more subtle, looking more organic. for example, blending grass into a sandy beach.

hold TRIANGLE in the building mode and press UP to make that piece of land equal or to be set on top of another piece of land, or press DOWN and you can change the shape from circled to squared (pressing LEFT or RIGHT will change the angle, which you can also quickly shift through by holding SQUARE and pressing R1 if you're working with a piece of land). also in building mode, when you're working with a piece of land, holding SQUARE and then pressing LEFT or RIGHT will change the land's peak, UP or DOWN changes the land's slope.

those are some basics. just keep at it. also a good tip is this: press START to see explanations of what does what or how it might supposed to work.

If you want a detailed guide:

      http://www.rpgmpavilion.com/index.php?page=rm2tutorial

The Final Rune's Map Editor Guide is Outstanding!

Don't miss Dungeon Warden and RPG Learner's Advanced FAQ on the same page.

Then have a look at my own VFX Editor Guide linked to in my signature.

      Then study and learn!

Ask questions here, too! But those guides should be a big help!

      MOO!

RPGM2's map editor definately takes a lot of learning. You most certainly want the instruction book or Prima guide by your side listing what all the button combinations. It takes a lot of getting the hang of, but eventually you'll have enough practice at it that you'll be able to create some rather nice maps.

Then you want to find the guide made by Prima. It's more useful as a reference book than an actual guide, IMO, but I still use it plenty.

Or use the link I posted in this thread!

It is to a Much Better Guide for the map editor than either Prima's or the instruction book.

                And it's free.

                And it's on this site!

                What are you waiting for??

                Go Click It!!

                  Re: The map editor

RPGM2's map maker owns RPGM3's, and owns it HARD.

the controls are confusing at first, but once you start to grasp them you realize everything's kind of the same, just depending on what editing mode you're on. (texture, build)

                    Both editors are lame IMO.

Only as far as control. You can make great maps with both editors. Just that RPGM2's takes less trial and error.
