View Full Version : Is EA evil?
I mean, are they? I don't agree w/ their buying up of properties, but...they really don't have any competition in the football arena. I guess the reason I'm asking is that my long time friend now refuses to buy anything EA, as I'm really looking forward to NBA Street 3.

They're bastards, but I wouldn't call them evil.
Not unless they come out with "NHL 2005: Skating Over Puppies Edition".

My opinion is here!

Because I don't have one of my own.
...I'll read that article later.

Well okay, apparently EA is evil because they are all about franchises and not creativity, and because they don't treat their workers well.
Is your friend a programmer or something?

One of my instructors works for EA and he loves his job. I know of a couple other guys at EA who dislike their jobs and are finding new ones.
Are they evil? My opinion will be based on if they decide to outsource like they threatned to do because they don't want to pay their workers overtime...and thats a bastard move.
I was quite happy to hear they backed out of the Ubisoft deal, ubisoft produces great games and if EA became involved I think the quality of their games would have declined. :|

Saying EA isn't evil is like saying JlaCroix isn't Canadian!

Is the sky blue? Of course EA is "evil". First of all, all their Bond games(excluding Everything or Nothing) are mediocre. A lot of effort isn't put into the right places. Their Madden games, compared to Sega's ESPN 2K series, are mediocre and costly. We know what they did to try and stop that. EA, afraid of competition? NO WAY! Their Medal of Honor games are some of the most cinematic WWII games I've played. Well, at least in the first level. They turn to crap after that. Basically every game they release is mediocre.
I mean, who releases a whole bunch of crappy Sword of Manas, releases a Final Fantasy, THEN spends a few more years releasing more crappy Sword of Manas? Squ...I mean EA, that's who.:p Their slogan "Challenge Everything" isn't just a slogan-IT'S THEIR OBJECTIVE!

EA destroyed all my hope for Ultima Online 2 to come out.

When was the last time EA actually made a note-worthy game? Lately their games are nothing but the product of unoriginal licenses and pop-culture clichés.
I'm pretty worried that they bought the rights to Timespliters. If it turns to a steaming pile of excrement, I'll know why.

YEAH, EA IS TOTALLY EVIL! MEDIOCRE GAMES!?!? HITLER MADE MEDIOCRE GAMES.
And NFL and NBA street are both really really awesome games by EA but most of you jerks just say "OH, THAT GAME IS JUST POP CULTURE GEORGE BUSH SPORTS REPUBLICAN" and refuse to give it a chance.
Alzar: no, he actually just works at EB Games.
So, I guess I've come to the conclusion that I'm supposed to...steal NBA Street 3?

:lol That's a terrible argument.
Interesting Kire...My friend works at EB too, I'll ask him if he thinks EB is evil. Maybe it's some EB thing.

The whole buying the license thing would only be evil if ESPN had done it. Since EA has done it, I dont really mind.

I gave both a chance actually, and one of my friends had NFL Street 2. I liked NFL Street more than NBA, and of course it plays well with friends, but both of them weren't that fun.
Of course I'm referring to mediocre as being moderate to inferior in quality, or ordinary, not bad.
:lol That's a terrible argument.
Yeah, when you quote one part of a post. :lol But that doesn't change the fact that WHOAMG EA IS TEH EVILLLZ!!!111shift+1 To tell you the truth, I haven't seen one game developed and released from them, that's actually worth the $50 price tag. And Timesplitters 3 doesn't count, FRD is developing that and has been since Timesplitters.:p

Hey buddy... I'd buy that game.
I owned one game (NHL Faceoff 95?) just because I loved to cut on the fights option and **** people off so we could engage in 1v1 MORTAL KOMBAT. I would pay $60 for a hockey game that let me skate on puppies.

EA has nothing to do with Square now.
It's Square's fault it's releasing mediocre games.

Square hasn't been doing so hot lately. The last thing I got from them that I really, really liked was Legend of Mana.

Is there something AFTER Legend of Mana that I'm missing, Magus? I might be... memory's kinda hazy. FF:CC was fun, but only because we happened to have 4 people with GBAs who wanted to try it out. Not spectacular, but fun nonetheless. Can't think of much else...

Ehhhh, I found Legend of Mana to be lame. A bunch of mini-games and mini-quests that don't really amount to anything. Sure was pretty though. AS USUAL.
I liked Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
...That's about it.
Smurvis

Well, Legend of Mana didn't really have one big "plot." Did you pay attention to the quests, or just brush them off as random crap? There were about 4 or 5 different stories being told, and a good part of the quests accounted for that.
And the gameplay was damn fun, despite most of it being hack, hack, hack.

I hated the gameplay. You could take a sword and hack enemies, and by timing the next slash right, keep them stunned so they couldn't ever move. The only fights where I had to do anything more than tap the button rhythmically were boss fights involving two or more enemies.
... Purty graphics and music, though. :p

Yeeeeap. My thoughts exactly.
But hey, how about that EA?
Alzar

Yeah I kinda hated Legend of Mana cos I was super disappointed after the coolness of Secret of Mana.
Hey Kire, I talked to my EB friend, EB EB EB EB. He was like, "Heck yeah EA is evil! [Generic EA is evil arguments]." So maybe it IS an EB thing. EB EB EB EB. EB.
EB EB EB EB EB EB EB.

Has everyone seen this (http://www.livejournal.com/users/ea_spouse/) for theirself? This was mentioned in EGM and probably numerous times elsewhere--it's an LJ that chronicles the author's spouse's horrible experiences as an EA employee. It also has some cool articles about working in the game development business.
