Yeah so I made my own tattoo design, scanned it in, vectorized it in photoshop, and came up with these 3. I'm not sure which one I want to get... Let's vote

Is it a random assortment of slashes and hooks designed to look hip and edgy, or does it actually mean something?

Just my own rendition of some tribal design thing, I was scared to get something that meant anything because I'ld end up regretting it. I figure I'm less likely to regret getting something that just looks cool.

This is why tattooing is stupid. Why wouldn't you get a tattoo that actually means something to you? Tattoos are personal things. You're getting something permanently ETCHED into your skin that will cost a lot more money to remove than to have it put there. It should be something you feel very strongly about rather than just some stupid design that you WILL end up regretting ten years down the line when edgy slashes aren't in anymore.
That said, I like the red one.

I like the left one's color scheme, also you should definitely get it done if you designed it yourself. At least that's my opinion.
Yup yup, the blue and green one looks the best.

The right one looks like the only one of the 3 able to be a tattoo. The other two just look cool because of the gradient glow behind them

While I like the green one the best, the one on the right is much more practicle.
Where is this going and how big do you want it?

Those are really bad. It's just a random jumble of lines. It's not even really a tribal design, and tribal designs are usually ugly enough. Even worse, the color schemes are completely gaudy. It looks bad on the computer, and it would look terrible on your skin.
Man, I'm not trying to be a dick here, but I seriously think that getting any of those tattoos would be a huge mistake.

Yeah, the two on the left would not be possible, or if they were able to have that "glow" coming off of them, it would end up looking a lot different on your skin than it does on the computer screen.
It makes me think of something written in Klingon for some reason. It's kind of boring but then I like designs more than images when it comes to tattoos.

You haven't seen many colored tattoos have you? I lot of them actually have glow to them, in fact my mom's does. I'm going to go get an estimate on the left and right designs and see what they say, but they can do pretty much do anything with tattoos now. I mean the even have glow in the dark ones... what's next holographic tattoos?! crazy mo'fo's
Edit:
Oh and it's for the outter side of my right calf. Not super large but big enough. Maybe 8 inches tall idk?

I'm curious as to how a tattooist could do Photoshop filters on someone's skin.
neobi

The actually draw it on you first, and then they tattoo it. I believe they just variate thickness for the lighter and darker areas of the color and then they can also do shading with some black.

My friend got a lot of shading done. The artist only "drew" the outline on him. They have different needles and he goes over it many, many times with different colors to achieve some of those effects. I still can't honestly vote for any of those, but I'm the guy who went out and got Swabby. I honestly don't believe that glow won't come out like on the paper.

Its quite generic looking. It has no pizazz! No heart in it!
If your going to get a tatoo, make it something special!

So you do believe the glow will come out or the double negative is accidental?

I like the one on the right best, partly because it's modest, and partly because I think it would go best with the average Caucasian skin color.

i don't like any of them.
and i don't understand the logic of getting meaningless tattoos.
rather than dealing with them LOSING meaning, you'd rather they never HAD any to begin with?
that's odd to me.
but alas - have fun scarring your body with that.
So you can't get something simply because it's aesthetic?

Tattoos used to be something deeply personal. Culturally and historically, they have been used for a great variety of things, and it saddens me that it's mostly become just another way to modify your body, like piercing.
But then, I've had my eyebrow pierced for over a year now just because I like it, so I have no room to talk here. And yet I do.

You CAN do whatever you want.
But I don't have to think it's a great idea.

Nah its just a bunch of **** inked on ya.
Personally I cant stand peoples stupid stories of what their tattoos "mean" to them. Bleh.

I mean way long ago. Like the olden days. Since it came to Europe and then to to North America, it's become just another trend.
The friends I hang out with are all mostly tatless. My brother and his fiance each have a couple, and one other girl has like eighteen, and the rest are all like me in that they think a tattoo is something you have to feel very strongly about and that it has to have personal meaning.
If I did have a tattoo, I would never explain it to people unless they asked me. I hate people who let the tattoo define them and go out of their way to show them off or explain the significance (or lack thereof).

I'm with highwind on this one. Doesn't make much sense to get it if it bares no meaning. That's kind of like me getting a tattoo of a llama.
Someguy: "So, dude, you like llamas?"
Me: "Nope. Hate them actually."
Someguy: "Why the hell did you get it?"
Me: "I dunno."
Someguy: "....."
Me: "....."
But I figured Nash would get it regardless of what we said, so I went with the one that doesn't seem too crazy.

my only advice is to take the concept to a tattoo artist and get them to rework it into something you will not what to kill yourself over in a years time. It's what they do for a living and will make it shine and plus you might find a theme somewhere in the process.

Ask yourself why you're getting a tattoo.
If you answered "Because I want people to think I'm cool," don't get one.
Pretty Fly for a White Guy comes to mind.

When did None of the above get added? I feel cheated.
Bad idea. People agree that it's a bad idea. Don't do any of them. You're still going to do one of them. I hope you enjoy that. I do not enjoy them. If I saw you on the street with one of those, I'd probably say to a friend or someone I know, "Check out that ****er's tattoo." and then we'd laugh.

Not at all, the topic has nothing to do with "should I get a tattoo". The topic is about "I'm getting one of these tattoos, which one?"

Actually I do have a cute gay friend I slept with who has a sweet tribal.

Even if you want us to vote on a tattoo instead of telling you not to get one, we deserve the right to choose none of the above. If I had been given that option when I voted, I'd have voted none. Because I was FORCED into it, I chose the one I least disliked, which is hardly good news for you.

You should get a picture of you face tattooed on each shoulder. One of you looking happy, and the other sad.

Subconsciously maybe. That and I think it's cool. It's a design I made, and I like, and I can't be upset after getting it because it doesn't have some corny meaning like it's in my language or something that I may letter regret. Just a cool design I made and I like.
