The newest (as in not really all that new) firmware update is ****ing up PS1 games. I discovered this last night playing resident evil 3. I had played it before on the PS3, before the most recent firmware update. it looked fine. great, even. and last night, JESUS CHRIST. pixelated mess! jaggies everywhere, the polygon models stood out far more than they used to. So bad that I could not stand to play the game. painful to look at. keep in mind I first played this game on a PS1 with an RF connection, and THAT looked better than THIS. So I turned on the smoothing option that the newest firmware introduced, and it fixed it. it seems the newest firmware added the smoothing option to fix a problem caused by the newest firmware. wtf.
to further test this, I put the game in my PS2 with texture smoothing off, using the same exact AV cable the PS3 uses, and the game looked great. texture smoothing off on the PS3 makes it took like crap. what.
