Gah, PS3 stuff. GAH, I SAY.

The newest (as in not really all that new) firmware update is ****ing up PS1 games. I discovered this last night playing resident evil 3. I had played it before on the PS3, before the most recent firmware update. it looked fine. great, even. and last night, JESUS CHRIST. pixelated mess! jaggies everywhere, the polygon models stood out far more than they used to. So bad that I could not stand to play the game. painful to look at. keep in mind I first played this game on a PS1 with an RF connection, and THAT looked better than THIS. So I turned on the smoothing option that the newest firmware introduced, and it fixed it. it seems the newest firmware added the smoothing option to fix a problem caused by the newest firmware. wtf.

to further test this, I put the game in my PS2 with texture smoothing off, using the same exact AV cable the PS3 uses, and the game looked great. texture smoothing off on the PS3 makes it took like crap. what.

Do you mean 1.9? I don't really know either way, I turned smoothing on. I mean, why not?

          What? Why?

I'm not mad, there was a problem introduced, but the smoothing option fixed it. its no big deal. I was just confused.

am I not allowed to voice confusion?

I think Jeroak is more-so referring to his overprotective stance on the system and how he generally gets negative reponses. Not necessary flaming, or even hateful posts, just that no one else really agrees with him on the PS3 and posters usually get irritated.
            Keep the change.

I really think that for me it's because Jeroak never really was particular about what games he played so his opinion isn't a valid testament to the quality of games available on the PS3. They could put out complete crap and he'd still buy it.

He's like the Harry Knowles of video games. No man, it really aint that cool.

If it looked fine before this, the more sensible conclusion is that the Smoothing was always there, and they just added the option to turn it on and off... with the unfortunate oversight of having it start in the off position.
And when you take into account the fact that there have been many complaints about certain PS2 games not looking very good on the PS3 (see: Okami), the option to turn Smoothing on and off seems like the simplest way to fix this (dunno if this does make Okami look better or not)

I would not buy complete crap...cause feces is nasty.

So far i have been pretty picky with the games i pick up for the PS3. As of right now i have:

                      Armored Core 4
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam (picked it up today, like the DW series, and Gundam, it is perfect)
Enchanted Arms (this is the only one i'm really thinking that i may not want to keep playing)
Full Auto 2 (dont knock it until you have played it, its like Twisted metal without the cool characters)
Motorstorm (no racer more fun out at this time on any next gen platform)
Ninja Gaiden Sigma (like it, but too damned hard, not very fun when you die so much)
Resistance (Best console FPS ever, although most will disagree)
Transformers (more fun than the PSP version, that is for damned sure)
Warhawk (picked it up today, played it for about 2 hours, not good with six axis control, but fun as hell)

Plus i already have Lair and Heavenly Sword paid off.

Hell ****ing yeah! I think mostly people here don't like it because it's in-ter-lec-ti-el enough.

Sixaxis blows. I've played it a few hours and it's definitely a satisfying experience if you're into Battlefield. I suck at these types of games, though, so if we meet on opposite sides you'll probably kill me at least 20 times.

                          I'm slowly catching up.

The Darkness (One of the best stories in any FPS)
Resistance (Some of the fastest action in FPS's, and they didn't skimp on the story, either)
                          Warhawk
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (The legend part should have been left untold, but it's not bad, considering it's basically God of War meets Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance)

Resistance, Call of Duty 4, Virtua Fighter 5, Tony Hawk's Project 8. I'm "catching up" just as much as you, .

I only own Resistance and Sigma. Sigma is damn good, but I find Resistance to be a very mediocre shooter. Nothing else for PS3 interests me.
