I thought it was boring and not that funny. I give it 3/10.

Re: Did anyone see Hitchhiker's Guide yet?
I think it was charming at times, pretty lame at other times. About 50-50 I guess. There were long boring stretches, usually whenever Sam Rockwell wasn't onscreen, and though I thought he was the best part he'd say something lame/embarrassing or demonstrate some lame CGI effect.
This is my main criticism of the book too but it's just clever for clever's sake. Who cares? Tee hee. Chuckle. Next gag. Tee hee. Chuckle. Next bit 'o satire. And when they tried to instill some kind of deeper meaning (out of bloody NOWHERE) it fell flat. I felt so bad for Martin Freeman and his dumb lines, he seemed sorely underused. Mos Def was pretty bland too. What a blank actor.
And did anyone else feel like jumping into the movie and redesigning Marvin? He looks like a stormtrooper with gigantism. Most of the designs were pretty uninspired/lazy. The main starship looked like a doorknob and the Vogons... ugh... did they really need all that screentime?
Still, there were some decent scenes and lines and gags. The animated scenes were a nice surprise and Sam Rockwell's attitude and dialogue is entertaining. What a goofy guy. And the movie picks back up once that weird Brit from Shaun of the Dead and Love Actually shows up out of nowhere. But... eh. It just had this whole amateurish, rushed feel to it. Like, there are times when I don't think the director had ANY idea what to have the actors do so he told them to just joke about lemons and flail their arms a bit while he hid under the catering table, fretting over how over his head he was.
If they wanted a music video director they should've hired Spike Jonze.

I give it a 7/10. Not as good as i thought but still funny. I just hope women never develop a gun like that one
And whatever happend with that gun and the deal they had??? And what are the chances of a back up earth??? Does the book cover it all? Now where did i put the lemons and my thinking cap...

Re: Did anyone see Hitchhiker's Guide yet?
I'm glad they didn't follow the book very closely. I feel the book wouldn't have made a very good movie at all. In fact, Hichhiker's guide is the only book in the series I can stand. The rest of them are just too silly and the jokes arn't effortless. They're taxing. The first book is funny, and clever, and new, and it tells a good story too. The rest don't.
That said, I thought the movie was pretty entertaining. It wasn't amazing by any streach, but it was good for an afternoon. Lord knows there will be a lot more movies this summer that will be a whole lot worse.
I was really happy they went with puppets and yarn instead of a whole lot of CGI. It's nice to see that not everyone is following the same path.Last edited by Monkey King; 05-02-2005, 10:40 AM.

Re: Did anyone see Hitchhiker's Guide yet?
I looked up the book and as it turns out there is 5 parts to the story. I wonder if that means theres a sequel or two coming out withn the next... 5 years or so. I'd like to see how that gun is invovled in the story and what that multi-legged guy wanted with it.

Re: Did anyone see Hitchhiker's Guide yet?
The reason the Hitchhiker's Guide can't be translated from one medium to another very easily is because even Douglas Adams didn't know what he wanted from his story. He kept changing things every time he switched from radio to novel to movie to etc and has admitted that he has contradicted himself on several occasions.
So, it's best to stick to one Hitchhiker's Guide medium and stay there. I've picked the novels, and I'm going to stay with them.Lil' Bean is here!
