You might have heard, but they called off the search for the six miners in Utah...because 3 died in the rescue effort. Geez.

What is it with miners recently? I don't remember this kind of news until the last few years. They say this one was caused by an earthquake, but you have to wonder.

Well there's been problems with mines since the days of Rockefeller. The worst thing about this particular one has been how the owners have pandered to the media. They've had seismologists go on record that the activity they recorded was more congruent with the mine collapsing on it's own than from an earthquake. That and how after a week and three holes that recorded no sound they were still insisting that there was hope. Yeah, you gotta hope for the best and maybe I'm just cynical, but everything I read about them sounded like they believed if they said it enough it would come true.

seems like there was some big mine thing a year or a few years ago, media got all hyped up about it. don't remember what it was. but ever since then, mine collapses have been the media darling. cameras rush out, live updates, reports on just what the hell a mine is for all the yankees.



if only they could tie them in to global warming, the media would **** itself with joy.

It's no big thing in mining country. I've known two people up in Ohio who died because of a mining accident. There wasn't even a news report.
