Inspired by Alto's topic (and not to make light of it), and also inspired by an IM discussion with Obright, I'd like to hear about the best phone prank you ever pulled.
I'm gonna repost mine here from the other topic....
I had this thing my buddy and I used to do....one day, I saw a phone number for someone named Gene laying with his stuff. I didn't know this person, and apparently, it was someone he used to work with. Anyway, I thought it would be funny to prank him. And I was on this kick for a few years of asking any famous person or band I happened to meet what their favorite fruit was, so I called Gene (but entered a code so the call wouldn't show up on caller ID) and asked him what his favorite fruit was. He began asking who I was, etc., so I just hung up. A few months later, I decided to call him again to ask him if he enjoyed the exquisite taste of pomegranates, then hung up. Basically, over the span of 2 years or so, I called the guy probably a total of 5-6 times, always months apart from each other, with the topic always being fruit. The last time I called him, he said, "Hey, it's the fruit man!" and I actually held a 5 minute or so conversation with him.
My friend and I were laughing our asses off every time we called him, and had some of the calls on video. So we began to devise this whole elaborate scheme about calling him again disguised in a wig and a WWII gas mask that I owned at the time, videotaping it, and sending him the tape because my buddy knew where he lived. Then it evolved into my friend drawing some comics of Gene and the "Fruit Man" and proposing sending them to him....a few other details I'm leaving out, but what started off as a harmless little prank was soon progressing into full-on stalker s***. So we nixed the whole thing, and I never conversed with Gene again.
