    Guild Wars

My preorder just came in yesterday and I love this game. No monthly fee, sweet hunting system, and, made by ex-Blizzard employees. I would seriously pick this game up, I hate paying monthly fees for MMO's, and now I don't have to.

    More here.

yeah, been playing it, and since it turned out so good, i may cancel WoW (only temporarily, cant really afford WoW right now).

Thankfully, a friend owed me a game, so i got GW free.

    Yeah, it is pretty awesome.

The no monthly fee part makes me question the game a little, how stable are the servers and are their a good enough amount of them?

        Re: Guild Wars

well, they had a short downtime yesterday for server issues(mostly because the Korean players bum rushed the servers), but for the most part i have not noticed any real lag, or problems. And it has a pretty decent story, told through quests, and there is a major event that happens early in the game, that pretty much increases the size of the world by about 4 or 5 times its original size, which already seemed pretty large.

Its not really a MMORPG, perse.

In the cities, you meet up with people to group and buy armor and weapons, and have modifications done to your items, craft items, etc. If you dont have multiple people to party with, you can also hire NPC henchmen that will help you out(after the big event).

And then the areas you fight enemies and monsters in are all instanced, so only you or your party members can enter them, so there is no ganking, or PKing, or KSing, etc.

All the PvP is done in large scale battles and arenas. I'm not sure how all of that works, as i havent done any of that yet.

I honestly think it is going to be just as stable or more than any MMORPG out there. And server costs i think will be offset in that they wont really be doing "content patches" like most games, but there will be 'content expansions' that will add more items, classes, missions, etc, etc, etc. From what i have played so far it is really good, and lots of potential.

Honestly, without spoiling anything, i hope their first content expansion allows additional races, like one that is trying to be an ally with the side you are on, and allow a separate side of the story to be told, from a different perspective.

        Honestly, i love it

              Re: Guild Wars

You can only Level to 20 or something. That's pretty casual if you ask me.
I for one dont think its interesting.

My question is, is the battle system fun? I'm confused because on one end they say skill, not how long you played, is required to progress. But on the other hand, I read a review that said you attack targets by point and click method. How is that skill related/fun?

The game rewards players' skill as much as it does the amount of time they have been playing.

                  *EDIT*

There's an ability system that you have to assign to your 8 slots in town, these abilities need to be used properly and timely or you = fukx3'd

                    Re: Guild Wars

                    8 ability slots I understand. But that's not skill. That's tactics. There's a difference.

Skill to me is executing a 7 combo move while leaping over the enemy's head, causing massive damage, and still being able to dodge out of the way of his next attack.

Skill to me is not clicking on an enemy, moving over there, and attacking him automatically, while using abilities at the right times to kill him.

If that is what skill is, FFXI has more skill involved than that.

This is the most beautiful game I have ever played. I bought the special addition for the artbook...and holy crap. (my guy has cool **** falling off him all the time cuz of the s.e.)

Plus....this game encourages PvP.....so guilds form and badass arena fights happen, all the time.

Im also partial to it because a former instructor of mine worked on the levels for some time. To me its alot like PSO, only larger with the world....the world is fricken enourmous...

Thats why I play Monster Hunter. Its got that large MMO world feel to it, but to kill your enemy you dont just gang up with some people and click on the monster until it dies. So boring.

I want action, but while ganging up with some people. Imagine an online MMO, where all the battles are like the ones in DMC3, or God of War.

Now that I would play, and gladly pay a monthly fee for.
