Stardust - Go see it. Please?

It's really unfortunate that this movie has slipped under most people's radar. I saw it on Sunday and enjoyed it a lot. It's based on an illustrated novel by Neil Gaiman, who you probably know for writing The Sandman. At least, you should know him for writing Sandman, because it's amazing. But that's neither here nor there.

Stardust is a lot of fun to watch. From the marketing, it sort of comes off as a cliche fantasy film, but that's not really how it is. It does use traditional early fantasy tropes, but it's really self-reflexive about it and has fun with itself. A lot of people compare it to The Princess Bride, in that regard.

Also, if you have as big of a crush on Claire Danes as I do, you owe it to yourself to see this.

I know Neil Gaiman from American Gods and Good Omens. I liked both but then I started reading about his comic book stuff and he came of as quite the prick about various ownership rights. Now I'm not so sure about him.

That being said I did want to check out Stardust but then I found out that it's Neil Gaiman's movie and now I don't know if I want to.

    Claire Danes is strangely hot.
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

I went to see this with my little sister (21) last weekend. We both had a good time. And Michelle Pfeiffer is ridiculously hot for her age. There were plenty of light moments that deflated the more pondrous aspects of fantasy movies and it seemed to hold the attention of adults and children alike if the audience I saw it with was representative. Really little kids might be scared at certain parts though.

Are you talking about the stuff with McFarlane and Spawn, SHFC? I don't really know the situation, but from what I heard, I never thought that Gaiman was in the wrong. Maybe you could enlighten me.

Yeah, I just know the paragraph that's on wikipedia. Don't get me wrong it kinda ruined McFarlane for me too because he was equally prickish. It's just that from the little I know about copyright law I think McFarlane would have been right. But really it depends on the situation and the language in whatever agreement they had.

It's just a black mark on Neil Giaman and his comic book work. Also he appeared in his own commericals for Stardust on sci-fi and asked people to go see his movie and it came off as greedy to me.

I've seen the trailers and commercials and the fantasy doesn't come off as good and the humor doesn't come off as clever as it thinks it is. Plus Michelle Pfeiffer doesn't seem to do a good acting job in it. "I will KUTOUTHARHAHT!!!"

Nevermind. I had no clue what I was talking about.

Ditto. It just seemed like another failed fantasy in my eyes.

EDIT: And Pfiefer is hotter in "Hairspray."

You won't see Stardust, but you've seen Hairspray?

                    ...Good lord.

You should see Joss Whedon's appearances for Serenity. Guh, what a gnome.

I like the guy, but he should invent a machine that lets him live inside Firefly or something. Sheesh.

Michelle Phiefer hasn't been hot in anything except for Catwoman. And I'd say that it was mainly the suit except for...

                        but then again...

If you can't just turn off your grump and enjoy a fun movie, then I guess you can skip this and go watch Leaving Las Vegas or something.

Since when do you guys trust previews?

Oh, Neil Gaiman had a ownerships right fight. I refuse to see this movie.

Looks like "GAY" fantasy. I'll pass.

I haven't seen it but it's obviously another failed fantasy.

Also from the 30 second trailers I've seen, Michelle Phiefer's acting seems sub-par. Seriously when I read Mora's post I couldn't help but read it in Cartman's voice.

I guess you guys can all go see Rush Hour 3, M I RITE?
