Go ahead. Rip it to shreds. It's about two months old. I drew it when me and my girlfriend were having competitions on who could draw better. The badge reads "JD", which is her initials in case anyone was wondering.

I'll pretend the "JD" stands for Joy Division, in which case, I'll pretend to think that you have taste in music, and thereby pretend to like your picture.
Seriously, coming from someone who can't draw, it's better than something I could do, but it does seem a bit like generic anime....

Hehe, I haven't added any color to it. And plus my art is what it is. :D Although, I wouldn't say generic in the least.

It's not too bad for a quick drawing, and even better if it's a full pen-drawing(did it have a pencil drawing under it?) But I do have to agree that it is a fairly generic anime picture. Then again, my artwork is considered generic anime, and you don't want to get me into that discussion.
On a more serious critique, I can point out some of the places that look a bit "off" proportion wise, but it's nothing that detracks from the main picture. It reminds me alot of the BoF/DQ RPG's where the characters have the more childish features (i.e. the hands are very rounded, rather then pointed/square) and the outfit and hair remind me somewhat of DBZ. It has alot of potential on it's own to be very good (your style) but unfortunately, with the craze of anime ramming it's lovely manhood into art nowadays, it's hard to keep it origional. ^_^
I'd like to see more of your art. It definately has potential, and I really do like it.
Something's wrong with his pants.
Did he forget to iron them? And then starch the hell out of the wrinkles?

Why is an anime guy with a fox tail wearing your girlfriend's initials? Is your girlfriend an anime guy with a fox tail?

JD started her own line!
My first reaction is that it seems to drop in quality as it descends the page. I don't feel bad saying that, because that's how all of my drawings are.
Yeah, man. I know wrinkles in clothing look cool as hell, but unless you're intimately familiar with both human anatomy and the physics of fabric, I'd minimize it entirely.
That said, he has eyes full of passion and vigor. God speed, son!

top half looks really great. pants are bad.
try to imagine how they'd look unwrinkled. these would be lumpy and have strange curves.
I really can't add anything, only reaffirm what everyone as been saying. It looks sort of Akira Torigenericama and the pants are wrinkled oddly. The shirt is awesome though. Especially because with a gut like mine, I see the shirt fall like that often.

It's not too bad, but I really think you should try to find your own style.
Don't listen to Tex. The important thing is to keep drawing. When you draw a lot you'll find a style naturally. So draw what you want now. Don't worry about finding an unique look.

As another non-drawer I don't have anything particularly constructive to say. Agree with what's been said before. The face does look generic but it also has personality. You definitely have talent and the more you learn about technique and composition your drawings will get better and better.

I said he should try to find his own style. That could take however long he wants. There are some people that draw and never get past aping anime. I was just suggesting against that.

Actually on style guys, this is my style. I just didn't put anything that reads "SIGNATURE FEATURE" in this one :3

Your style is terribly generic low quality anime? You're shooting for the stars, kid.
Honestly, it looks like you became enamored with whatever random Ninja Laser Card Cluster**** show aired on Fox last Saturday morning and decided to draw fan art. I really suggest trying out different styles. I know anime can be fabulously beautiful, but whatever it is you're going for has been done to death.
Oh yeah, Cloud called, he wants his hair and pants back. He thinks they clash badly with the eureka seven kids jacket.

Thank you for the comment. I have different hairstyles and clothing for my characters. This is just one of them. And have you ever seen Cloud's design, by any chance?
And the original concept for my character Leon, which this is him, was Musashi, so he also has a costume similar to that. And the jacket is actually based off my jacket, except, I added lots of my style to it, since my jacket is just gray.
But to further show to you what Clouds design is I provided a picture:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/kumoshinagi/Cloud.jpg
My picture, looks nothing like that. Not even the pants. Not even Cloud from AC. Leon's hair spikes from the back, and are fairly larger than Cloud's too. Not to mention if you've seen past pics of Leon, his hair is blue/black, and not blonde. But I guess having it any color/hairstyle is generic these days.
And Renton from Eureka 7:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y140/kumoshinagi/eureka_20061011.jpg
I can tell where you see the comparison, but that jacket he is wearing is different than Leon's. Especially since Leon's is almost skin tight. And the different designs. It sounds like you were just trying to be mean, and disguised it in a complement sandwich. Although, thank you for the criticism, but try to think of a better insult if you're gonna insult it. Everybody always says the "It's looks like DBZ, FF whatever, Inu-yasha!!!" or "It looks like GOKU!!!!!" comment.

Thanks for the neg rep. You asked people to rip it apart, but I guess your definition of "rip apart" is a friendly circle jerk where everyone tells everybody that everything is A-OK forever and ever.
Sorry man, it's great art. Show it to your mom, she'll probably call you a beautiful unique snowflake.

Yep, I said rip it apart. Tell me what's wrong, not compare it to other characters, that honestly you didn't even know the name of. And I wouldn't have neg rep'd you if that last part of your post wasn't there. It was fine 'til then.
And alas, I'm right in what I said to you too. You can't stop me from posting pictures, and I can't stop your criticism. But what I CAN do is neg rep you for every sour comment you make.
And you're right, but to an extent. Almost everyone I show my art to, says it's great ^_^ my art is unique. Name one person who draws exactly like that? Designs, details n' all.

I agree. You'll notice that with manga artists (which seems to be your goal? I see more japanese influence then american here. :p) they sometimes have chibi representations, suddenly go dark and serious, or just change style on the fly. But you can always tell it's the character, and even abstract humor art isn't "bad", yes? So all I can suggest is to forget any idea's of "style" and just draw Leon as many different ways as you can. Make him chibi. Use a human body for totally accurate proportions. Make a rayman style with no body. Draw a bird with a leon face. Above all, try to make a character independent of any one drawing type or medium.

My influences are of coure Akira Toriyama, Isutoshi and Oh Great!. They have to be my favorite mangakas ever, and I try to mix n' match some of their styles with mine. Akira Toriyama, I got down, but now I'm practicing with Isutoshi's sharp charcter's and expressive styles, but I seriously doubt I could get anywhere close to Oh Great!'s artstyle with busty women and such.
The I haven't had any art classes so, I'm just drawing what I have learned, and maybe in the future, I'll be able to draw much better actions and expressions, to not make my characters so two-dimensional looking.
Not to mention if you've seen past pics of Leon, his hair is blue/black, and not blonde. But I guess having it any color/hairstyle is generic these days.
How the hell is he supposed to know that you're character has blue/black hair when the picture you show is black and white? Jeez, I'm sorry we're not more familiar with your work. Don't get ****** off about something that he has no way of knowing.
The pants look a lot alike. Are they exactly identical? Of course not, but it's enough that people are going to think of Cloud because he's an iconic example of that style of pants. Loose Kung-fu style pants with very sharp angular wrinkles. Clouds are thicker in the hips and yours more so at the ankles. But people are naturally going to make the comparison between the two.
The jacket actually reminds me of Naruto because of the similar collars. Is it Naruto's jacket. No, but that's what I think of when I see it.
Everybody always says the "It's looks like DBZ, FF whatever, Inu-yasha!!!" or "It looks like GOKU!!!!!" comment.
That's because it does. If you do spiky hair people are going to bring up DBZ because that's what it's known for. Same thing with Cat ears and Inuyasha. If you don't want to hear these comparisons then don't include those design aspects in your drawings. Or do something to differentiate them other than pointing out that your jacket is one size smaller than so and so's jacket. I'm sure some of people here could explain to you better about style and design and how they work but to say that your stuff is different than other things because of small minute details is just weak. And you look foolish for being so convicted about it.
You need to come to terms with the fact that people are going to be critical of your artwork. Especially when you invite them to rip it to shreds. You can't change your mind because they're harsh in their criticism. Garr's post wasn't even that bad. You've been the biggest baby every single time someone is the slightest bit negative or critical of you. You really need to grow some thicker skin.
At least Nash shrugs it off with all the **** he takes.
Almost everyone I show my art to, says it's great ^_^ my art is unique. Name one person who draws exactly like that? Designs, details n' all.
Either the people you're showing your art too have never heard of anime or they're straight up lying to you. As far as naming one person who draws exactly like that I could pull up any random devientart page and there would be an excellent chance of finding someone who draws exactly like you.

Thanks, but I could care less about all this text. Who do you think I show my art to? Anime fans and art teachers. And the "it's looks like Goku, etc." thing is just friggen' stupid. You wasted all your time typing to someone who could care less. And WTF are you talking about?
I'm not even crying for god sake. That just shows how stupid this is. I reply to his post defending my stuff, and that's called crying? Man, sometimes you people are just too much.
And about that search. DO IT THEN ^_^ Oh, and I've been posting Leon for years here. But, ya know, I'm new to the site right? lol
How about being a little *****? Is that better for you? Because asking for criticism and then giving out negative rep when you get it is a ***** move. Reporting a post to staff forum saying you were flamed and then protesting that you're not crying is a ***** move.
Not being able to handle someone giving you negative rep and making a post asking if that person gave negative rep to everyone is a ***** move.
And I'm not flaming you. I'm using a colorful term to descibe individuals who act similarly to you. But you're jacket is totally tighter than theirs.

I understand that I'm gonna get negitive comments but, the one Garr posted was really insulting to me. I didn't mean just basically say my art is garbage. I actually meant like tell me what wrong and what I should improve on. Not that it's looks like "whatever", and that I totally fail as an artist. Cuz' that's what he really wanted to say.

I only reported you because I'm not gonna fight with you. And the only reason I asked that is because you just did that for no reason. I WAS JOKING YOU ASS. I try to unwind when I post here and joke. But I can't do that obviously right? And I get neg rep for ****ing everything here. Even just posting a reply I get neg rep for it. And I'm sorry but I find it ridiculous.

Actually, he said the anime style is overdone to death and you should try to change styles. Then referenced people with similar designs to prove his point. He's not saying that you actually copied the jacket, hair, and pants, just that all characters in that style look awfully alike.

Yeah but really he didn't say that. I'm sorry to "*****" but he tried to say like I have no talent, and that's not the kind of "ripping apart" I'm willing to stand for.
And I give Garr neg rep, because there was posts saying I should do better and change my style, but they didn't just say it looks bad. He's the only one I took offense from.
