Seems like it's gonna look like a totally different game!

If the port isn't as good as the original, the extras had better make up for it.

I'm selling Metroid Prime 2 and buying RE4 as soon as I can.
I was only 5 hours into Prime 2 and got the "been there done that" feeling.
I'm ready for something new and exciting.

FROM CAPCOM?! 'Tis only a fantasy! :lol

That makes me pretty glad I bought a gamecube today.

Hey, Crimson, play RE4 yet?

Leon's polygon count, in order to run on the inferior PS2 hardware, will have to drop from the original 10,000 polygons to a mere 5,000
I'm trying to decide if this is actual overt bias or just heavy sarcasm.
Most likely sarcasm. No one's that crazy enough to be that biased in a article.
So, uh, yeah.

Aww man...Hopefully they'll find out something or like Draygone said hope fully the extras will make it just as good as Gamecubes...Why does a Ps2 have to have "inferior" hardware...Why? (Inferior hardware my A#%...)
Kefka Jr.
02-07-2005, 03:05 PM
Well, it is technically inferior, isn't it?
Otherwise there wouldn't be problems, right?

Okay well how does Gran Turismo on PS2 look so good? I dont get it.
Valkysas
02-07-2005, 05:22 PM
because cars are big and blocky and dont have to animate in hundreds of places.
the GC is way more powerful than the PS2. I pity anyone who can't bring themselves to accept this. just because capcom is the only company that takes advantage of this doesnt make it any less true.
highwind
02-07-2005, 05:43 PM
It's true.
And using the word "inferior" isn't making fun of the PS2. "Inferior" is the nicest way to say it. If they were bashing the PS2 they would say something like "crap-ass".

Jeez, I must've missed when everyone started hating Sony. I leave for a while and come back to
"PS2 SUCKS IT!!"
"PSP ALWAYS IS THE GAYEST"
"PLAYSTATIONS ALWAYS BREAK EVERY 5 MINUTES SOOO GAY"
Valkysas
02-07-2005, 05:51 PM
how is it hating to say that one system is technologically inferior to another? its a FACT. just like the X box is more powerful than both, and the PS2 is more powerful than the playstation 1, and the gameboy advance is more powerful than the NES.

I'm glad I got to play this on the cube. But depending on what it looks like when it comes out, I just might get the PS2 version.
Residents of Evil
02-07-2005, 06:30 PM
It's so so true! X-box is more powerful than both! Yes, and someone agrees with me lol. But how is that little game cube more powerful than PS2...and why? It's so not fair.
Valkysas
02-07-2005, 06:38 PM
have you ever looked at system specs?
the PS2 is BARELY more powerful than the dreamcast. the only place the PS2 really excels is processing speed.
GC is far, far more powerful than the PS2. the X box doesnt have that big of an advantage over the cube.
KumoShinagi
02-07-2005, 08:38 PM
Ha ha.
I still need to pick up this game.
Valk, I totally agree.
Dreamcast just needs a better processor.
Valkysas
02-07-2005, 08:51 PM
dreamcast had a few other problems too.
Kefka Jr.
02-07-2005, 10:33 PM
And the Dreamcast had HELLA framerate, too, right?
John Mora
02-07-2005, 10:38 PM
I thought it also trumped PS2 in respect to texture memory.
Valkysas
02-07-2005, 11:06 PM
it does.
problems with dreamcast were the media type, the VMU's save capabilities, and less polygon-processing power.
but regardless, it was enough of an advantage over the PS2 to make all DC to PS2 ports look and sound like crap, despite the best efforts of the companies involved.
Dreamknight
02-07-2005, 11:07 PM
The dreamcast was the most beautiful machine ever made....

i loved the dream cast.
I own 2.

I wish I could get my hands on one of those nifty limited edition ones...they had a whole bunch.
Ooohh...or the Panzer Dragoon Orta Xbox! *drools*...
So...anyway...yeah, RE4 on PS2 should be plagued with some lovely loading time issues.
Valkysas
02-07-2005, 11:21 PM
I wont get it. no way.
Shinji Mikami didnt want this done, only after he left capcom (jumping off a sinking ship), did capcom announce this.
and he is ****ed.
I can see why they're doing it though, they need the money. Mikami's "I love nintendo" way of thinking wasnt getting them the kind of sales they need, and the PS2 didnt offer the power he needed. capcom hasnt had a genuine hit in a long time, they're laying people off left and right.
while this will be garbage, I hope it's the big seller they desperately need. god knows there's a big market for crap in the PS2 fanbase.
(Note: I love the PS2, but come on, most of the big sellers and popular games are garbage)
Redneck 2000
02-07-2005, 11:35 PM
I dont get that post. So because it has a few porting issues the game is automatically crap?
And I think it's fair that it'll be released on PS2. Playstation has had every RE game up to now on it, it used to be a PS franchise.
And there's a big market for crap in every fanbase. Moreso Xbox than PS2. You know how many people buy mediocre games like Halo just out of a sense of duty/their friends told them to? MILLIONS. Probably coming up on a billion.
Valkysas
02-07-2005, 11:41 PM
crap when compared to the original.
PS has not had every RE game. the remake of 1, and Zero. Shinji Mikami doesnt like sony, or their business practicies, and wanted his series to be GC exclusive.
any time a company disrespects the creator's wishes, it ****es me off.
KumoShinagi
02-07-2005, 11:46 PM
The term "Exclusive"doesn't exist in Capcom dictionary.
Dreamcast VMU's were cool, but they had crappy space.
But, if I had to choose DC over PS2, DC would pwn.
I concur. It's quite a shame.

I don't want to have to buy a Gamecube to play this game. The only other Gamecube games I'd want to have are the Zelda games and Metroid games. I don't know what to do if the difference between the Gamecube Resident Evil 4 and the PS2 port is so significant.
Alzar
02-08-2005, 12:37 AM
It'll probably just look worse...
Like playing Half Life 2 on a not as great video card or something...
No biggie unless you're a graphics whore.
Draygone
02-08-2005, 01:28 AM
Yeah I'm sure that compared to other PS2 games it'll look pretty nice. You'll only be able to see the difference if you've already played the GameCube version enough.
SirTMagus
02-08-2005, 01:59 AM
Ooohh...or the Panzer Dragoon Orta Xbox! *drools*...
I have this and I don't think it's the bee's knees exactly... is there something in it I'm not seeing?
And Halo sells because it's good. What exactly is Halo crap compared to? There are far worse games on the XBox than Halo, mon ami.
And Capcom really hasn't had a hit in a while. It drove the Mega Man X series, indeed, the whole Mega Man franchise with Pokemon clones and mediocre RPGs, into the ground. Onimusha 3 was astoundingly average. One might say it even sucks. (HENRI!) And WHO is excited about Shadow of Rome and Nightmare Before Christmas 2 and Mega Man 28? And now they bone Mikami and RE4?
:(
Dreamknight
02-08-2005, 09:04 AM
...how'd you get the PDO Xbox?
How can a white xbox NOT be the bees knees?!
Kefka Jr.
02-08-2005, 10:31 AM
No, he's saying Panzer Dragoon Orta isn't the bees knees.
If you're confused it's because he's a :doofus.
Ivalice
02-13-2005, 07:16 PM
Its probably going to look significantly different. I think so because of the texture maps. PS2 has a hard time processing texture maps and this is where gamecube excels.
Last I was told the GC could run 1 or 2 1024x1024 maps. The Ps2 hadnt even made it to 512x512.
That would make a huge difference.
Armored
02-13-2005, 07:53 PM
But, if they choose to do this, the game's framerate will drop substantially, this is due to the PS2's, as stated before, limited texture memory capacity. And, of course, any extra lighting or texture layers will slow down the framerate more. It is expected, that if all the Gamecube features are included, the PS2 version will run at less than the Gamecube's framerate.
I doubt you'd even notice the framerate change really. If this is the only problem the game should come out fine. We'll see though.

After finding out what Namco's doing with Tekken 5, it isn't too surprising.:p
Valkysas
02-21-2005, 10:46 AM
meh.
like it or not, the PS2 version WILL have to be "downgraded", to think it won't is to be retarded. polygon count will have to drop, as well as the texture quality. its just what you have to deal with when porting to a weaker system.
