    Life in other Galaxies?

Do you believe in life in other galaxies, or even the Milky Way? Scientists haven't been found proof of any life on any of the planets in the Milky Way, but it's not like scientists know everything with their fancy telescope-mabobbers. So do you believe in life on other planets and galaxies?

I don't know. That's the simple answer. No one has ever put forth any hard evidence that even comes close to proving aliens exist, and I've never experienced anything in my life that would convince me they exist either. However I have no way of knowing they don't exist either. Is is possible? Yes. Is it known for sure? No.

So all in all, to answer your question, I have no idea but I'm leaning towards no, probably nothing besides bacteria lives on other planets.

Yeah, theres probably life somewhere given the size of the univers. Now is there any life as evolved as humans.... Doesnt seem likely.

I hope there's other life out there. Otherwise this universe is pretty useless. I mean a vast, conceptually infinite space filled with stars, planets, and everything else and only one rinky dink little world has stuff going on? LAME!

As far as scientific evidence goes. The absolute farthest we've been able to observe is still just a tiny part of this corner of this one galaxy. It's like looking out your window and saying I don't see any penguins they must not exist. The total of all human knowledge is an indefinably tiny percentage of what the universe actually holds. We don't even understand this solar system yet. Was just last year they decided Pluto's not a planet after all. And less than 80 years ago we didn't even know it existed. Also our definition of life and the conditions it can exist in are constantly improving. We keep finding life on this planet in places we thought were uninhabitable.

Ok, to boggle the mind some... if you're Christian and believe that God created the universe, thus putting everything into existance. Why would He only have one planet with existing life? Isn't that a waste of ****ing space? Unless the intent is for us to be ambitious and leave Earth, which seems dumb, to me. But anyway, there's definitely other life out there aside from our own. I just think most of the people here are too arrogant and believe we're the only ****s to exist.

Most christians answer is that the universe had to be the way it is in order for Earth to be what it is. If you took away even a portion of the universe (maybe even just one star) then Earth would never have formed the way it did. I was never really satisfied with that explanation because it supposes God is subject to the laws of physics, even though he created them and they're completely at his discretion. If he wanted he could've created the Earth without even needing a Sun.

But I also hope they don't have super-advanced technology

I know for a fact there is life on other planets. I can feel it in my heart.

Even if we did find a planet with life on it, would we even be able to recognize it? Our whole definition if 'life' is only understood in the context of our observations on this one planet.

Assuming there is life elsewhere, we may be the only planet with living matter that contains DNA. Extraterrestrial life could even by right under our noses since we have no conceptual ability to recognize it, if say, perhaps a giant cloud of sentient electronic debris was living a few solar systems away. We don't know whether all life even functions on our same timescale.

Maybe the other planets were prototypes? I dunno.

Its seems such a statistical impossibility that we are the only planet to have life.

And like Terr said, there is not necessarily a strict code of what makes life, and when you take that possibility into consideration, there could be a myriad of life very close to earth that we will never find because we are only looking for carbon-based life on planets that have water.

Its the whole MIB ending deal. You keep zooming out to find our entire galaxy is inside another, inside another, inside another, to the point where we are just so insigificantly small that our entire planets life goes by in half the time it takes to blink the eyes of the beings living outside it all.

And who knows. Maybe their planet is also part of an even larger scale system.

It seems that way, but most of the parameters we'd need to calculate that probability remain unknown. We could indeed be the only planet with any life on it at all, and the other extreme may also be true. We just don't have even the slightest idea, as much as so many people would like to pretend that they do.

But anyways, out of all the galaxies out there with all their stars and with all those stars' planets, I find it hard to believe that this tiny solar system of ours is the only one with a planet that has life on it.

But hey, if we can't find life on another planet I guess there is always terraforming right?

I like to think that, in the sense that God is an all-powerful being - at least to us - God is really just some kind of scientist tinkering with a virtual reality system, or possibly, if God is not a deity but rather a scientist in some super-evolved society, he is conducting experiments to try and determine the course of his own society's history, stuff that happened so long ago it's impossible to determine. So he creates a universe that has several planets of a similar structure and life to his own, and then observes them all.

I don't know, I just want a God who has nerdy glasses and a pocket protector.

So yeah, I think there's life out there.
